Anonymous said...

She does this every year....cmon people she gets money revenue for all the hits that she has on this page...she clueless like the rest of us and gets her info from the coachella messages board

Anonymous said...

i gotcha

Anonymous said...

trolled by coachella and monklish HARD, on the same day no less

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Go home people, nothin to see here

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Oh, I get it now! Monk never said she was going to give a prediction. She just said "final prediction". It was us predicting this shit!!! We go fuck yourself with Peanut Butter Monk! Good night!

Anonymous said...

hahaha your such a cunt

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Any word Monk?

Anonymous said...

Monklish is late, AS ALWAYS

Anonymous said...

I've always trusted in your predictions monk, but this "who are you predicting" post was kind of bullshit and the fact that you didn't gave your final prediction as promised was kind of a low blow.

Not cool dude, not cool!

Anonymous said...

Mumford & Sons

Anonymous said...

I feel so betrayed! Cant i just download the line up from itunes or torrent right now!!! mua mua!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Depeche Mode
Daft Punk
Blur

Anonymous said...

within the hour.

GET READY!

Anonymous said...

Wow. Just got word from artist rep that the lineup isn't coming until Feb 4th. GV gave clearance to discuss booking in interviews after that date.

Time to sit on your hands for another 2 weeks. FUUUUUUUCK!

Anonymous said...

Who does he/she represent? Dave Gahan?

Anonymous said...

Nope. Deftones.

NC said...

So here is the deal.

Monklish does have some insider info. Every year she gets 1-5 acts that nobody had on their radar that she comes out of left field with and a good percentage of them turn out correct.

Most of the info she gets is in fact from the research done by members of the message board. Or from COS, facebook events, tweets etc.

She gathers all of the information and adds some logical guesses based on tour dates and such and thats where this list comes from.

Yesterday there was movement on the coachella page and she assumed the lineup could be dropped at any moment hence the "final prediction coming tonight"

With no further activity or the site going down, its obvious the lineup was not coming last night and now monk is holding off in order to squeeze in any more confirmations that trickle in last minute. Several artists have been putting dates up on facebook and monk wants to hold off on the final prediction until just before the lineup is released or as close to it as possible in order to capture these. This will ensure a high percentage correct when the numbers come in after the lineup.

Final prediction will be posted within the next 48 hours.

Anonymous said...

That's all great and all NC, but Monk's post about the final prediction coming "this evening" was up BEFORE any activity on the Coachella homepage or FB.

Explain that.

Monklish said...

I am waiting on news on one of the headliners before posting the final list. The new list would only have had a few more names. You can curb your excitement temporarily.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, Monk.

Anonymous said...

Is that you Monk, the real one????

Anonymous said...

any idea when you think the lineup will be out?

Anonymous said...

so Monk is it true that there was a last minute headliner change?

Anonymous said...

Monklish has done this before, believed the line-up was about to drop and call final predictions, she will emerge in a few days and blame it on GV that she was about to put her final predictions up but GV changed something so in the interests of accuracy she held off.

Anonymous said...

Seriously, chill out you guys. We're all just slaves to Monk's predictions anyway. Don't call her anything vulgar. We're all the pathetic ones drooling over her predictions.

Monklish said...

I have done this before? I do not remember that happening. Paul McCartney year? If so, there was a lot happening around that.

Also, I never make claims to know the lineup release date. I have made an occasional guess or two, but I usually only get a 30 minute warning at best.

Anonymous said...

Therefore, can you release your final list??

Anonymous said...

at least just throw out the headliners that you know. To help us in this time of need. we struggling!

Anonymous said...

Hi Monklish. Can you throw us a bone here on at least the headliners? I find it hard to believe they are still struggling to book them at this point.

Anonymous said...

monk, you literally just posted. why can't you just release your headliner predictions?

Anonymous said...

@10:32: I don't think Monk has ever pre-announced her final lineup predictions, but she has tried to predict the lineup drop date (in 2009). So technically she's only been wrong about the lineup date before. Being wrong about when she'll post her own final predictions- that's a first!

Anonymous said...

It's her website she can do what she wants if you don't like it, go play with a sack of dicks.

Anonymous said...

Monk is going to pull off Daft Punk from the list. She was just waiting for the lineup announcement for Primavera Sound. Daft is not playing at Primavera Sound.

Anonymous said...

and she is going to add Wu-Tang Clan

Monklish said...

Blur and Phoenix.

Anonymous said...

So Daft Punk is a no?

Anonymous said...

Daft Punk was never a yes.

Anonymous said...

Really??? Blur and Phoenix? That is terrible.

Anonymous said...

blur would be an embarrassing disaster. how much fucking crack are they smoking over at gv?

Anonymous said...

if it's blur and phoenix co headlining (like i predicted) that would make sense. but i could see them separating them because it's cheaper

Anonymous said...

Haha. No Daft Punk at Primavera Sound and Monklish now only saying she can confirm 2 headliners (Blur and Phoenix). So no Daft Punk at Coachella as well.

Hahahaa

Anonymous said...

@ 11:54 #2

you act like Monklish is the one who can control if Daft Punk will be there or not.. why so simple minded

Monklish said...

poop

CUMSINBUTTS said...

BLUR?! what a fucking joke...I took a shit ealier that sounded better than anything BLUR ever put out?! Really...BLUR.....eat the corn out of that deuce I took Monk...BLUR?! Go. Fuck. Yourself.

Anonymous said...

If blur headline, coachella becomes a shitty VFest. What a crock of shit if true.

Anonymous said...

Only Depeche Mode can save this lineup

Anonymous said...

I can believe Blur and Phoenix, especially is GV was shooting for the stars to get the Stones or Smiths as the third.

So now what, Monk? I really don't think anyone, and I mean ANYONE, will take you seriously ever again if DP isn't the third.

Anonymous said...

who the fuck is blur?

Anonymous said...

11:54 AM

Sad, but true.

From the last list the only act we can really could see has a potencial headliner is Daft Punk, and now, after the Primavera Sound announcement, Monk said it's Phoenix and Blur.

This is shit. This is sad. Cheap headliners.

Cheapchella

Anonymous said...

This will be the third time that Daft Punk is on Monklish's list and gets removed days before the lineup announcement. This is your third strike monk, so long for your remaining credibility

Anonymous said...

Monklish finally got something right.

And I don't understand how people could see GV book Kings of Leon, the Black Keys or Jack Johnson to headline and still think that Blur is "weak." When's the last time Blur played a show in the U.S.?

Anonymous said...

@ 12:23 PM
exactly what I was thinking. how's Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire & Black Keys at the top of past posters & people say that Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Phoenix, and or Blur would be bad? this lineup is still going to be better than Primavera...

Anonymous said...

I still believe Phoenix and Blur can co-headline a night

Leaving two remaining headliners to slot...

I believe!!

Anonymous said...

Monklish is not credible about Daft Punk, but she seems to do better than everyone else with the rest of the lineup. I don't see any issues here.

Anonymous said...

It's up to Goldenvoice to reach out to the talent and negotiate booking these highly desirable acts. If they can't come to terms or aren't ready to play it's not Monk's fault. Blur may not be as optimal as Daft Punk, but it's better than Jack Johnson.

Goldenvoice historically surprises and produces a great Coachella lineup. Give them time to do so again this year. If you keep asking to release the headliners when it's not complete, you get half the story. Patience.

Anonymous said...

There is no way Blur and Phoenix would separately headline their own night. Maybe Monk misinterpreted something she read on the board.

Here's a tip, Monk: you are still missing at least 2 headliners.

BagOBabyDicks said...

@12:23 What the Fuck is a Blur dick cheese?!?! At least one person, 1 like the other bands u mentioned so GV can justify having them headline previous Coachellas, NO ONE LIKES BLUR, imagine when BLUR come out to the Main Stage and no one is there...cause they fucking suuuuuuuuuuuuuck....

Anonymous said...

Did Blur ever make it past playing clubs in the United States? I love Blur, but they are really really really not a factor here in the USA. They are a bit bigger than Pulp because of Woo-Hoo.

Unknown said...

if Blur and Phoenix are really each headlining a night, that will really be the weakest coachella ever

Mr. Wiggles said...

but what if it ends up being Phoenix/Daft Punk, Blur, Depeche Mode?

Anonymous said...

@ 12:04

yup, Dave Gahan to the rescue.

Anonymous said...

Would stomach Blur if they played "Girls & Boys"

Anonymous said...

Phoenix
Blur Deadmau5
? <- (this better be fucking epic to make this work)

Anonymous said...

Possible smokescreen by the stones? And I've only seen it on here a couple times and am unsure why they haven't been brought up more...but TOOL seems insanely likely at this point.

Anonymous said...

Phoenix and blur headlining is so much better than the year Massive Attack and Tool headlined.

Anonymous said...

Blur ??? WTF seriously... Blur as a HEADLINER?? I had to look them up to even see what they played

Anonymous said...

@Anon 12:52

Massive Attack did not headline. Tool and Depeche Mode headlined. Masssive Attack, Daft Punk, and Madonna were subs.

Anonymous said...

I'm afraid of Americans.

Anonymous said...

Sorry - meant co-headlining. My bad. Either way, both of those bands would be better than Tool.

Anonymous said...

how obvious is it now that coachella is scrambling. Every big name rumored for Coachella showed up on Primavera's lineup, including Monk's predictions for headliners. The only thing the lineup can do now is let down.

Anonymous said...

Pearl Jam
Phoenix / Blur
No doubt

Anonymous said...

@ 1:05 PM

you talk shit but fail to realize Coachella is the wrecking ball of festivals... it will come in and knock this shit out of the park.

Anonymous said...

I am guessing the first time most of you started to attended was 10???

Anonymous said...

pick

Green Day
Phoenix
Blur
No doubt
Pearl Jam
Depeche Mode
Red Hot chili Peppers

Maybe?

Daft punk
Outkast

Anonymous said...

Blur's sold 12 million records globally.

Daft punk has yet to even sell half that.

Who's fit to headline?

Anonymous said...

no one gives a shit about what Blur sold in the UK. This is Murica and in Murica we dont give a shit about the WOOHOO band. Some token 90s shit. Take your Blur defense elsewhere fogbreather

Anonymous said...

and by that same logic Justin Beiber should be headlining coachella because he sold more records than Daft Punk...fucking idiot

Anonymous said...

That final headliner has to be:
Depeche Mode or RHCP, maybe Bjork or Tool
Black sabbath is touring now, so maybe for this year.

Any word on My bloody Valentine?

Anonymous said...

Hey asshole, when you buy a plane ticket to fly to Coachella, is your destination "globally"?

Anonymous said...

Nickleback sold 40 Million+..Sahara Tent.

Anonymous said...

Let it go 1:13.

People may know more than 1 Blur song in the rest of the world but in the U.S. they are known for 1 thing, if they are lucky, and that is WOOHOO.

Anonymous said...

"That final headliner has to be"
It doesnt have to be anyone. Coachella missed out on the Stones and it would appear Daft Punk is adding 2013 to the hiatus. Coachella struck out and is now scrambling to try and find anyone. Yes, were all hoping for some legendary act but I think GV went after those golden geese and came up short. Be prepared for disapointment people. 2013 is not going to be a banner year for Coachella

Anonymous said...

Pulp and the Verve didn't headline. So I am not sure why Blur is a headliner. Blur is a headliner in most countries, but not in the USA. An Oasis reunion probably be the only traditional Brit Pop band that could headline at a US festival at this point and that would still be a stretch.

Anonymous said...

I wonder who the 80s Legacy token band will be this year. I hope it's someone who hasn't played yet - like Tears for Fears. I've seen New Order mentioned a lot. Hope note since they are horrible live.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully somewhere Paul Tollet is throwing money at Lou Reed and John Cale.

Anonymous said...

I just hope they don't have to resort to Metallica.

Anonymous said...

who's Blur?

Anonymous said...

"An Oasis reunion probably be the only traditional Brit Pop band that could headline at a US festival at this point and that would still be a stretch."

Nope. Not any of the big US festivals. Maybe a state fair somewhere.

Anonymous said...

It cant get worse then last years disaster..... or can it ?

Anonymous said...

fun. wants $5 million to headline

Anonymous said...

Im 100% against Blur headlining but 1:27 you are an idiot. Oasis has already headlined Coachella and a reunion would be such a big deal theres absolutely 0 doubt they'd be able to headline again.

Anonymous said...

i take that back 1:33 is the biggest idiot ever. You people do realize Oasis has headlined Coachella?

Anonymous said...

I despise most of the assholes on that fucking board, but this guy makes a lot of sense.

BLUR MATH

90% of Coachella attendees know one Blur song
Only 40% of that 90% even know it is sung by Blur. The other 60% know it as that WooHoo song that gets played on car commercials and once every two weeks on the crappy alternative rock station in their city.

Blur can headline, sure, why not, Coachella can pick whoever they want. But virtually everybody will be at something else. All the other "weak" headliners at least had songs that your average American knew. Jack Johnson sucks, but I bet everybody at that festival knew Flake and Bubble Toes. Killers? Weak as shit, but they had 4 or 5 legitimate hits by then...Somebody Told Me, Mr. Brightside, When You Were Young, Are We Human or Are We Dancer, etc.

I think it's silly to book a headliner based on an impressive legacy they established a decade ago on an entirely different continent. Nobody in America knows Blur. The argument isn't about how good they are, I dig them, great band, great legacy across the pond, but you throw something even slightly interesting in the Sahara and the Mojave and the main stage will be dead empty if they headline. If they are a strong sub, then you just shut down the outdoor and the set will be full, like Pulp last year. But you can't tell me that if Pulp had Black Keys spot, and the other options were Explosions in the Sky, M83, and Afrojack, that most Americans under 30 (a large percentage of the Coachella audience) wouldn't have chosen one of those acts.

Anonymous said...

well said

Anonymous said...

Stupid fucking Brits that think anyone in the states would give a fuck about an Oasis reunion are the same ones that think anyone gives a fuck about a Pulp or Blur reunion.

Get over yourself, that's UK hysteria. Doesn't translate over here.

Anonymous said...

Just because Oasis headlined before doesn't mean that would be invited to headline again.

Beck headlined before. Does he seem like a current Coachella headliner now? I love him and Oasis, but I think they are more for Lolla, Outside Lands, and ACL

Anonymous said...

Just because Blur its not a "big thing" in the USA doesn't mean they are not a very good band, what about if you start listening to their records, you fucking piece of ignorant shit.

Anonymous said...

I don't think most ppl on here are saying that Blur sucks....they are simply saying that they appear to be a weak choice for a festival that is trying to sell us tickets a year in advance (without a lineup)after expanding to two weekends.

Anonymous said...

Blur sucks.

Anonymous said...

I tried listening to blur but had to stop when my ears filed sexual assault charges.

Anonymous said...

1:36 addressed this point. It's not an attack on Blur or their music. It's the fact maybe 10% of Coachella would care about them headlining and would leave for an incredibly empty and underwhelming set. Call it ignorence or stupidity but Americans don't know Blur and especially young americans. Would Blur really want to headline knowing theyd be playing to a 1/3 full stage? Other big bands from the UK seem to understand their place ie Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, even legends like Pulp.

Also an Oasis playing again is not the same as Beck. Oasis reuniting would be a huge deal to music, whether you are a fan or not. Noel solo and Beady Eye still get some respect and no one really cares about either project they just want to hear oasis songs. Its ignorant to think they wouldnt headline if a reunion came about. and before you start in on some "the UK sucks" tirade, I'm american and don't give two shits about 95% of britpop. But Oasis reuniting would be a big deal and warrant a headliner spot, considering they already have and we are arguing about Blur headlining right now

Anonymous said...

I tried listening to Blur but I immediately had a craving for dicks so my wife made me stop.

Anonymous said...

hopefully blur headlines and this whole festival trend dies out and its back to how it was without the idiots thinking the headliners make this festival.

Anonymous said...

"Call it ignorence or stupidity but Americans don't know Blur and especially young americans."

Nope. Go ahead and call it good taste in music.

Anonymous said...

"An Oasis reunion would be a big deal IN THE UK AND EUROPE."

Fixed that for you.

Anonymous said...

Blur > The Black Keys > KoL

Whats the deal?

Anonymous said...

i come to you as a genuine fan who's appreciative of your work and continued effort to give us some insight into each coachella. that said, any idea on when you might release your other headliners?

Anonymous said...

So are we all just going to keep arguing about stupid British bands and ignore that Monk has now pulled off Daft Punk and NIN from headlining without any explanation. Are Daft still going to guest for Phoenix or play a Dj set? You are a fucking joke, can't even explain your awful predictions when they are wrong. Just the same cryptic bullshit year after year. Thanks for absolutely nothing this year, you hack.

Anonymous said...

@1:36
Don't you think that if 90% of Coachella's attendees knows one of Blur's song, they would see their name on the top of the poster, search for them on youtube and associate the name with the song and start screaming "OOOOHHHH MYYYYY GOOOOOOD IT'S THE WOOOOOOHOOOOOO SONG!!!!!!!!! COACHELLA IT'S GOING TO BE SOOOOOO AWESOMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Hey remember when Monk listed The Postal Service...BEFORE ANYONE MENTIONED A REUNION?

How about when Monk listed The Knife....BEFORE THEY EVEN CONFIRMED LIVE SHOWS OR 2013.

She removed NIN and put up How to destroy angels_

I think she/he/them knows what they are talking about. What do you Monk to say? People protect sources to protect jobs.

Anonymous said...

daft punk has been on the list 3 years running, everytime pulled off at the last min. no change

Anonymous said...

i predict.....

OUTKAST

DAFT PUNK

ATOMS FOR PEACE/PHOENIX

Anonymous said...

@1:28: New Order are much better live these days than they used to be. I've seen them multiple times since '93 and was underwhelmed each time until I saw them this past October. It took 'em about 30 years, but they're finally good live... not sure what that says about Peter Hook??

Anonymous said...

ummmm monk added the knife well after they announced their 2013 return, try again though pal. She also listed the Postal Service after the rumors started elsewhere. She updated the blog 3 times this year and at each major update pulled off one of the biggest names on her list. I know you just started going to Coachella last year and you really love Daft Punk but Monk is a fraud who proved again this year that she knows jack shit and posts names just to get views.

Anonymous said...

LINEUP TONIGHT. Just came through the wire here at our radio station.

Mr. Wiggles said...

^^ just shut the fuck up...

Anonymous said...

@250

Monklish posted about the Postal Service in December, and BrooklynVegan (who everyone credits as starting the reunion rumor) posted about them in January.

Anonymous said...

who cares who started what rumors. We were promised a final list yesterday evening and all we got was Monk pulling Daft Punk off her list. Give it up sheeple, Monk doesnt know shit or she'd have posted it by now. Just stalling for days

Anonymous said...

Depeche Mode isn't on Monk's list yet but I have reason to believe they will be on the lineup. The Cure headlined Sunday in 2009 so I suppose DM could do the same this year, though personally I would prefer it if they were one notch down.

Anonymous said...

@ 3:07 PM

where did Monk take Daft Punk off her list? look at the last post.. it's still there..

Anonymous said...

@ 3:20 PM

She took it off in the comments above when she said the headliners from the list are Blur and Phoenix.

Anonymous said...

hopefully she didnt take Daft Punk off her list but then added Blur and Phoenix

Anonymous said...

@ 3:23 PM
to me it seemed like those were additional to the list of predictions..

Anonymous said...

Depeche Mode is the band of that Dave Gahan guy, right? Yeah, not happening.

I've run in to him on the souplantation in Torrance today. Not only he totally skipped the salads, but he grabbed six baked potatoes!!

Then I was "dayummmmmmmm Dave! Six potatoes!?" and then he saw that I was wearing my 08 coachella tee and he said "what da fuck do you hippie care about it!? Go back to you stupid and hot festival! I'll never set my foot over there again!!"

Pretty rude guy!

Anonymous said...

Repost from the boards but, he's got a point:

Daft Punk are robots and negotiating with humans can be difficult because paper money, to them, is useless

Anonymous said...

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Blur
Phoenix

:-(

Unknown said...

I dont believe that blur or phoenix can carry a night by themselves. This is the most premier music festival in the world. No way. Maybe, maybe they share a night. Blur reuniting is somewhat a big deal. But not "headline a night at Coachella with Phoenix headlining another night" big deal. Phoenix does not deserve to carry a night nor can they. Even the Black Keys played Coachella 4 times before last year. Maybe they share a night.

Anonymous said...

Outkast backed out last minute, now they are replacing them with Wu-Tang. No joke.

Blur

Phoenix

Wu-Tang

...weakest coachella headliners ever.

Anonymous said...

I wish someone can weed out all this BS. Outkast is doing nothing, like always.

Pearl Jam, on the other hand....

Anonymous said...

"Outkast backed out last minute, now they are replacing them with Wu-Tang. No joke."

At first I didn't believe you, but then you added "no joke" at the end and I was like HOLY SHIT HE'S TELLING THE TRUTH!

Anonymous said...

obviously:
Phoenix - Daft Punk
Wu-Tang Clan

Blur - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Deadmau5

Eminem - The Postal Service
The Stone Roses

fuck outta hea wit dat bull ish

Anonymous said...

Monk is legit. Saw her call DFA1979 couple years ago before anyone else

EAT MY SHORTS said...

Anonymous said...

I just got word that Dave Matthews Band is to headline all 3 nights.. thank God, I was worried about the lineup.

Anonymous said...

Monk is right, a headliner did back out, so i cant imagine how much GV is scrambling right now...

Anonymous said...

Is today the annual Let the Retards Out to Post on the Internet Day in the UK?

Oasis were popular in the states for a few months, and they headlined Coachella during their peak, when it was a much smaller festival.

Not a chance in hell they would ever headline again. There's no demand for a reunion of a couple of overrated clowns that Americans quit caring about a long time ago.

Anonymous said...

But...but...WONDERWALL

Anonymous said...

Oasis would headline you people are fuckin twats. Half of you are probably under 22 so you have no idea what good music even is. There are a ton of shit bands right now that get way too much hype.

Anonymous said...

How can any of you take Monk seriously after she pulled Daft off in the 11th hour. She didnt even have the balls to pull them off the list, just took down the list and then said they arent playing. What a joke.

Anonymous said...

There is no way I'd pay $400 plus a plane ticket for Oasis.

Oasis = Bush at this point.

Anonymous said...

Too bad the LA times leak was fake.

Anonymous said...

Gorillaz headlined in 2010. Anything can happen.

Anonymous said...

So Monk, still waiting on that Depeche Mode confirmation?

We are no leaving the evening of the second day in a row and no final predictions, no Daft Punk and no info on the lineup. You asshats still think Monklish knows anything? Please defend her insider knowledge when she cant even take the time to explain pulling the biggest name off her list.

Anonymous said...

at least the Lakers suck, amirite?

Anonymous said...

Another day down, another day monks word gets flushed down the toilet. Daft punk pulled off on the final prediction again. Whoopsey! Lol she keeps it on there to keep hopes up and keep u fools coming, foaming at the mouth. Didnt see this coming from a mile away did ya?

Anonymous said...

The Police
Blur
Phoenix/Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Anonymous said...

Monklish you had a good run. Feeding the masses bullshit for 5 years. RIP the Monklish blog and any credibility it had. I will miss people bringing her unfounded claims around the internet like they themselves had inside info only to be hoodwinked by her now infamous last second pulls. Really a testament that she was able to keep it up so long.

Anonymous said...

All you idiots will be back here next year saying the same shit.

Anonymous said...

Seriously, it's funny how some people gang up Monk here when they are the ones refreshing this page every 10 minutes.. So what if she got one headliner wrong, she got crap for posting over a month ago that the Postal Service was in and no one is doubting that now.. Year after year she gets most of it right, and that's good enough for me. I got your back Monk, whatever kind of sentient being you are..

Anonymous said...

If Blur & Phoenix are actually the headliners you have my respect cause anyone who thinks they can carry the best music festival in North America is either crazy or has some knowledge

Anonymous said...

If Blur and Phoenix are two of the headliners it definitely will be one of the weakest Coachellas - headliner-wise - ever. That's just really uninspiring. Probably means I'll just go to weekend one and save money for another festival. I don't doubt the undercard will be good, but those are two bands I couldn't possibly care less about.

Anonymous said...

maybe a lot of headliner-caliber bands just aren't touring this year. There is very little exciting going on. Instead of having Blur and Phoenix they may as well recycle someone recent like Paul McCartney. Blur/Phoenix is weaker than anything I would have ever expected from them. And I'm truly not one of these people who complain about the lineup every year, but those are two subheadliner level bands.

Anonymous said...

Who cares if Monk pulled Daft Punk? It's not like she owes any of you anything. I appreciate her input and it's a FACT that the Postal Service reunion was announced here, weeks before ANYWHERE else. Jealousy clearly runs amok here. Thanks again Monk.

Anonymous said...

im confused - has she officially pulled daft punk?

Anonymous said...

Blue are more popular than most people realize. They will headline the fuck out of Coachella.

Think Tank is an epic fucking album. Parklife is fantastic as well. Isn't going to festivals in part to learn about new music and experience artists you haven't already gotten into?

Every year when the lineup come out, the bottom 2/3 lines are full of bands I have never listened to, so what do I do, I buy their cds, or play them on spotify and I find 5/6 new bands every year that I legitimately love and follow moving forward.

Yeah, it is disappointing if one of the headliners blows...but that gives you a chance to rage in the sahara or catch a rare performance in the mojave.

If you sit at the mainstage all day, you aren't really at Coachella. That being said, Blur will do a solid job, and maybe Phoenix will surprise people. Based on quality of music (not popularity) these bands are much superior to KOL, The Killers, or Jack Johnson.

I also think that if those are two of the three headliners, number 3 will be one of the following:

The Rolling Stones
NIN
Depeche Mode
Daft Punk
David Bowie

If they are a few million dollars away from coming to terms with one of the above names and Blur and Phoenix are their other two headliners, they are going to spend the extra million to put a big name on the poster that will continue to sell out pre-sale tickets without a lineup.

What if they put all their eggs in the Stones basket only to have it blow up in their faces. The only reason I could see those level acts headlining is if the third headliner is someone who makes them irrelevant. And it would appear that none of those headliners are available this year except the Stones. Negotiations were almost there then recently fell through. I find it weird that the Stones finally respond to all the hype directly right when the lineup is supposed to come out.

All the idiots on the boards who are saying Coachella isn't stalling are full of shit. You don't allow the performing bands and other festivals to steal your limelight by announcing acts before you unless you have major issues. Maybe it has nothing to do with the Stones but something is wrong with the top 2 lines or we'd have a lineup by now.

"Isn't going to festivals in part to learn about new music and experience artists you haven't already gotten into?"

You act like no one knows about blur and their music. They're not new at all. They just suck dick.

"Coffee & TV" by Blur is a fantastic song (& music video as well).

I too love finding new bands, its the main reason I want the lineup just so I can have a whole bunch of new stuff to sort through. However, the headliner slot at coachella is not the place for a band that people dont know. Maybe you dislike or have ignored past headliners but everyone knows who they are. There is a healthy precedent of the first subheadliner being a band that has a legendary past that people have no idea who they are. A band that had one hit in the United States 15 years ago should not headline the biggest festival in the US, regardless of their musical importance and legacy.

the last few years I've only seen one headliner, so clearly to me and many others the undercard is more important. but the headliners should at least be worthy, somewhat interesting. I even expect ONE of the headliners to suck. blur OR Phoenix as one headliner, fine. but both? that's boring, trite, and guaranteed to be two of the smallest crowds at the main stage in years. at least the killers and kol sell records and have fans in the US. nobody cares about blur, Phoenix is semi popular here. boringchella

Animal Collective
David Bowie
Justin Timberlake
No Doubt
Mumford and Sons
Portishead
Vampire Weekend

Blur are shit, is hardly a reunion either, they were at T in the Park a few years ago in Scotland, and they were shit. Then they played gigs in London just last year. I hope they aren't given a slot, nevermind a headlining slot!

Mumford & Sons
Daft Punk
Watch The Throne

That would be my choice of headliners :( ashame there's sweet fuck all chance of that happening with all the Blur & Phoenix talk

One single boardie is responsible for 95% of the Blur hate both here and there.

LOL at all of the morons complaining about Blur and Phoenix not being big enough to headline. First off Coachella is about much more than the headliners and secondly both of those bands are quality acts who put on great live shows.

I just want this lineup to tick off those who constantly ask for RATM/RHCP/Tool.

@3:43 you're ashamed of Phoenix and Blur but expect Mumford and Sons? go fuck yourself...
