Anonymous said...

Are the Beastie Boys considered a headliner?

Unknown said...

I guess this is your final prediction?

Anonymous said...

Any word on when the official lineup drops?

Anonymous said...

If this is correct I would be a very happy camper.

Harrisment said...

Where did Thom Yorke come from?

Anonymous said...

The UK.

Ryan said...

Monklish, I remember last year, you had pretty good insight into the date that the lineup was being released. Of course this year rumors are flying that it's going to be out in a few days, which would be unusual. Any thoughts or ideas you can share about when its coming?

Anonymous said...

Negrodamus,

Can you forsee when the line up will be released?

Thank You.

Anonymous said...

I hope you're right - although if that list ends up containing the headliners, it's probably Gorillaz, Muse, Soundgarden

Anonymous said...

No Beasties they had to back out cause that guy is about to die. So sad.

Anonymous said...

Jay Reatard confirmed.

Sam said...

@3:52 Fuck you

Anonymous said...

Any truth to coachellaleaks twitter page saying that we should get the lineup this week?

Harry said...

Thom Yorke! Hopefully I will be explain to a friend or two how much better his voice is than Matt Bellamy's! That would be hilarious if he subheadlined right under Muse.

Anonymous said...

Ok Monk...

Everyone has these 2 questions:

1. When does the lineup drop?

2. Are the Beastie Boys the 3rd headliner?

Anonymous said...

Headliners and subs (not in any order)-
Muse, Gorillaz, Soundgarden, The Flaming Lips, Thom Yorke, Jay-Z, Beastie Boys.

J-Dizzle said...

THOM YORKE!! been saying it for months, I hope you're right Monk!! great line-up so far, I'm liking it a lot...

Anonymous said...

Please, please, I pray you confirm Thom Yorke! Holy sh*t, his shows in LA were freaking fantastic! And he might play with FLEA! Flea and Joey Waronker. yes, yes, yes...

Anonymous said...

Sahara headliners and subs (not in any order)-
LCD Soundsystem, Orbital, Above And Beyond, Basement Jaxx, John Digweed, Moby, Tiesto

Matthew Lingo said...

Any word on Scott Walker?

Dr. Disco said...

The third headliner is a mystery just like GV wants it to be, because it is big. Its not Beasties, or Soundgarden. Hova could be but i put that at less than 50%.

Anonymous said...

i hope it's jay z...

i mean, watch this..

jay z will not be playing. he's playing staples center 3 weeks before coachella. this falls under the black out rule.

Anonymous said...

There have been exceptions to that rule.

skyler stone said...

not only would I die to know the third headliner, though I think it's Clapton or Outkast, but I would love to see a classic Coachella gimmick or two on this line-up. I truly love when someone performs an entire album in it's entirety (like Waters in 08) or when someone huge does the tent even when they are clearly huge enough for mainstage (Madonna). So I would love to see something like that, but please don't have it be Lady GaGa in the tent (ugh) or something stupid like that. Jay Z would be neat in the tent. I would love it if it was announced that the Beasties were doing Paul's Boutique. A huge reunion for the third one would be neat, like say Clapton and Cream! Or maybe an odd combo that is not going to be a tour nor will it ever be one but rather just specific to Coachella - like Elton John & Eminem or Jay Z and Eminem....or Neil Young and Eddie Vedder or something cool and odd.....just something new to remind us how original Coachella can be!

Anonymous said...

BlakRoc? Any chance??

J-Dizzle said...

if Thom Yorke is indeed confirmed, I'm sure he'll have his whole new side band with Flea, Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, & Mauro Refosco. it will be pure magic!!! Orpheum shows in Oct. were ridik!!!

Anonymous said...

I really really really hope that Jay Z is not the third headliner ! I cant stand rap music , my opinion....so there it is !

Anonymous said...

What's going to be in the dance tent this year?

Anonymous said...

^
Bassnectar
Orbital
Bazzment Jaxx
Bloody Beetroots ( i hope )
and lots of kids ....... blah !

Mike D said...

@ Skyler Stone: rest assured, Clapton will not be in the Polo Field in April, nor will Elton John.

Unknown said...

@ 8:37 , Jay Z would be okay , but i agree , not as a headliner , but who are we to decide ? Always seems to be that one headliner somebody dislikes , and doesnt agree should have that spot . My advise to those , go to one of the other stages and find what is more your taste in music .

Anonymous said...

Bloody Beetroots will NOT be there, they are in France that weeken

Anonymous said...

I just watched the JayZ set at Glastonbury on YouTube - that guy knows how to perform and would be great. I guess we'll see if it happens.

J-Dizzle said...

hey Monk...have you actually heard anything about Basement Jaxx playing Coachella?? I keep hearing rumors about them, but nothing substantial.

Anonymous said...

Thom Yorke @ Noon on Sunday

Anonymous said...

Could we consider Thom Yorke (and Flea for that matter) confirmed right now?

Anonymous said...

Lineup tonight. Tickets on sale next week.

Anonymous said...

I wish not agree on it. I think polite post. Expressly the title attracted me to read the intact story.

Dipshit said...

I polite not agree on it. I expressly intact post. Think the title attracted me to read the polite story.

CHUCHO said...

Hey Monk,

Is this going to be your final prediction before the lineup comes out? Do you actually know if it'll come out next week or the week after?

Thanks again.

P.S.: Can u please find out if Massive Attack is at least a possibility?

Unknown said...

KROQ has said to some people that they are announcing next tuesday.

Heard anything on this?

Anonymous said...

Just heard lineup on Monday "probably"

martin said...

I HOPE MASSIVE ATTACK MAKES THE LIST!

A Band Apart said...

I just heard (from a very reliable source) that the lineup will be posted late tonight. KROQ will not be notified, but look for a release to the LA Times around midnight.

Anonymous said...

I've heard (from two sources) that the lineup was supposed to be tonight but delayed to sometime on Monday.

Anonymous said...

I heard from a source that told me both of you were idiots.

I R THEIR SOURCE!! I r so reliable.

I just heard (from a very reliable source) that the lineup has already been posted. Listen to KROQ for clues on where to find the lineup poster, as it is hidden somewhere in the LA area.

Monklish said...

Lineup isn't coming out this weekend.

Anonymous said...

can you debunk any more headliners Monk?

Monklish said...

Which ones need debunking?

Unknown said...

Monk not this weekend but TUESDAY...

No?

Anonymous said...

Rolling Stones? Neil Young? REM?

Monklish said...

No REM.
No Neil Young.
Probably not the Rolling Stones.

I said awhile ago that I would guess that the lineup is out on the 18th or the 25th. I am sticking with that. If it is coming out on Monday, people will know that's true on Sunday. It could come out on Tuesday, sure, but we will not know that until Monday.

Anonymous said...

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so don't expect a leak on Sunday night.

Anonymous said...

so outside of jay z, no clue on the 3rd headliner?

Anonymous said...

Monk:

Massive Attack?

Anonymous said...

massive attack is the 3rd headliner

Anonymous said...

You're also missing Proxy... who is definitely playing. Lock it.

Anonymous said...

Any idea about the third headliner? Do you have any ideas?

Anonymous said...

Simon & Garfunkle?

Beasties will not sub for fucking Muse.

Unknown said...

i was only thinking opening for Muse , because id rather see Massive Attack open for Gorillaz . That would be a nice transition , but Beasties any day , any time ....im there !!! Put them in the dome for an exclusive campers only show !!! Now that that would be a party never to forget !

Anonymous said...

Fuck Muse and their overblown asshattery.

how about ???

Soundgarden - Muse
FNM - Bowie
BBoys - Gorillaz

any way it goes down , im there anyways ( already bought tickets )
its just fun to do this whole spec thing

next year , im willing to pay a nice little price to the best blogger , conditioning who is most correct about the line up , etc.

Unknown said...

@ 424

Muse is better than Killers or J. Johnson headlining , do you agree ? Seems like the unlikely event each year lately there has been an undercard ( technically speaking ) . One of these years Coachella will be so huge they will be able to book major headliners for all three nights .

Anonymous said...

I dont know if I am late in the game in bringing this up, so forgive me if this has been squashed already, but what about KINGS OF LEON? They are great at fests and would sell tix for SURE....are they a potential surprise headliner? Could they be headliners yet or would they be subs?????

Anonymous said...

Kings of Leon arn't playing. Go away.

NickDeesGuys said...

so let me get this straight...
the potential bands/singers for the 3rd slot are:

-The Stones
-Pearl Jam (maybe, as they are doing a fest in New Orleans)
-Thom Yorke and Flea and Nigel
-Smashing Pumpkins
-Jay Z
-Daft Punk
-Bowie (a relentless reach every yr)
-Eric Clapton
-Outkast

What about these as possible surprises? Metallica, Stevie Wonder (would fill the classic portion quite well), Eminem, or Foo Fighters?

Anonymous said...

-The Stones No
-Pearl Jam No
-Thom Yorke Couldn't Headline Coachella
-Smashing Pumpkins No
-Jay Z Maybe
-Daft Punk No
-Bowie His PR said no
-Eric Clapton NO!
-Outkast ???

Anonymous said...

Everyone should be forced to watch "High Fidelity" before suggesting Stevie Wonder. What is wrong with people?

martin said...

come on Monk...!

any news?

Anonymous said...

Saturday could be Dre Day?

CHUCHO said...

Hey Monk!

So the lineup is officially coming out on Tuesday.

So, what is your final guess on the headliners and subheadliners? Give us your best shot! As I stated, it would be a "guess".

Sat-Faith No More-> Beasties-> Jay-Z

Sun- Thom Yorke-> Pavement-> Gorillaz

FTW!!!

I'm gonna have to agree with u on those predictions. Sounds very good

Dr. Disco said...

Any word on GV trying to get Suede now that they are playing a show in the UK in March? They would be a great reunion band.

As far as 3rd headliner, I am hoping whatever plan A is it works out, I like Hov but not as a headliner at Coachella.

Harry said...

Outkast for sure

FOR SURE

Anonymous said...

what about LOU REED?

Anonymous said...

"Bowie- His PR said no"

so? if bowie was going to finally play it'd be a big deal and they would do what they could to make it a suprise..

Anonymous said...

They would simply not say anything. Not confirm nor deny anything about him playing or not playing.

Dr. Disco said...

Saying nothing would be similar to confirming, you would deny.

Anonymous said...

@pillowtalk
Thats pretty much correct. Except there is no Bowie. Thom Yorke is closing the Outdoor Stage. Pavement will play in a sub-sub spot. So Sat will look like this

Beastie Boys-Jay-Z

Everything else looks good. There may be some minor changes though. But good job.

Anonymous said...

If Thom closes the outdoor theater, what day? And does that mean conflicting with a headliner? Assuming you're not full of it, obvs.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Why does Coachella have to turn into a hip-hop cavalcade? Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Kanye West????? What has happened to Coachella?

Anonymous said...

I know Coachella is about the under card, but if Jay-Z and the crew are one of the headliners, this will be the last year I buy in advance. What about Interpol? Arcade Fire? The Pixies? Fuck...other festivals get these bands, and so what if Pixies have played in the past? What about Interpol before everyone gets them? What about Arcade Fire for the same reason? Muse is bad enough.

Anonymous said...

What has happened to Coachella? They diversified. It's called Diversity Today, not Diversity Tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Anonymous 7:37pm. Just when you thought you had Coachella figured at getting headliners that would meet the newish mainstream act/influential nostalgia act/classic rock act headliner festival of the past two years, they changed the game again and will confuse all other festivals who've been trying to mimic them. While your tastes may not agree with it, Coachella is doing what it does best: Embraces diversity. It's already had Interpol, Arcade Fire and so on. Let the other festivals have them. You're forgetting that Coachella had them first. I'm also willing to bet that while you may not see your average Coachella festival goer attending a Jay Z show on their own, expect to be surprised at how many people are going to jump at the chance at doing so when all their other favorite indie/electronic/alternative/whatever bands are playing on the same day as him.

Anonymous said...

My problem with Jay-Z is I just don't feel like it's an original idea.

Anonymous said...

This will be a 5th Coachella, but if this is the way it is going, then I might as well stay on the East Coast and just go to Bonnaroo, All Points West, etc. I started going to Coachella because it offered a difference, and Jay-z and the Posse are not it, either are The Killers, Muse, and McCartney. And APW Sucks!

Anonymous said...

If you are at Coachella to "jump at the chance" to see Jay-Z, then you don't need to be at Coachella. Just go see him on tour at a local arena. The same goes for Killers, Muse, whatever. I'm sure a lot of Coachella regulars don't like this either. Why not bring on Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga, and every other useless entertainment type performer.

Anonymous said...

Hey assholes, Coachella is going to be one of the only places in the world this year where you're going to be able to see the Gorillaz and anyone who says that's not original can go fuck themselves. The lineup isn't even out yet and I highly doubt there's any truth to a set from Jigga who is playing L.A 3 weeks prior to the festival. Just because Nostradamus here is saying it MIGHT happen doesn't mean it is. So you could all shut the fuck up.

Anonymous said...

^I agree! Assholes! fuckin spoiled brats! Gorrilaz will be legendary! Stop asking for shit that has already happened and your whiny about missing it! I said this shit last year! Macca was legendary! This year Somebody will be fuckin legendary! Don go if you dont like it! You just dont get it!

Dr. Disco said...

Coachella always offers a band that no one else even thought of getting or couldn't pull even if they tried. Look at the last 2 years: Roger Waters, Sir Paul, Leonard Cohen, Prince, Throbbing Gristle. It is the premier festival in the US, if you don't like the lineup go chug beers and sweat your ass off at Bonarroo or Lolla and enjoy sub-par lineups. COACHELLA is gonna be great this year!

Anonymous said...

IT'S THE PIXIES.
