I could not be happier that The Stones are not on this list.

Anonymous said...

So Monk do you think the headliners are going to be DP, The Beasties and Arcade Fire?

Anonymous said...

Any chance of Buffalo Springfield?

Anonymous said...

MONKLISH IS GOD.

Anonymous said...

Any festival without Pulp in 2011 is a bad cover version. Good lineup so far, though.

Anonymous said...

If you're correct about this, I think I'm gonna have to take a week off work to just make sure I high five every citizen of my local town.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the update Monk. So excited about the list so far. This is shaping up to be dreamchella for me :) Have you heard anything about The Strokes, Menomena, or A Perfect Circle?

Thanks!!

Anonymous said...

beasties will be there, cuz there's always a performer that ppl dont like and always bitch about; Jack Johnson, the killers, jay-z.

Anonymous said...

Wasn't Kanye West a big rumor? His new CD would be pretty awesome live

Anonymous said...

Gimme Panda!

Anonymous said...

Love and thanks btw

skyler stone said...

pleeeeeeeeease tell me that they will score Dr Dre doing new songs from Detox??? what about Eminem? how come no one ever says anything about Eminem, he would be WAY better than JayZ ever was in Indio.

Monklish said...

@anon1146 No

@anon102 The Strokes seem given but I have not heard anything yet.

Anonymous said...

avi buffalo or tame impala?

Anonymous said...

BRILLIANT!! " LP8 will sound so awesome at the Polo fields"

That sums up my thoughts completely about how much people take the Coachella lineup for granted. I love it.

Anonymous said...

Edit: *That video sums up...

Anonymous said...

Pointless comment...but I would already have to start prioritizing that list because I would see 22 of those bands. Correct or not, I'm so very pleased already.

Anonymous said...

No one gives a flying fuck about Pulp in America.

Anonymous said...

How sure are you on Daft Punk? Because my source says no. T_T

Anonymous said...

Any chance of Faithless coming back this year? They have a new album out.

Anonymous said...

Monk-

Do you think the Stones are the 3rd headliner?

I'm Back said...

The Walkmen and The Black Keys are looking likely.

Anonymous said...

It is too soon to regurgitate the black keys, etc. Invite some bands that haven't played, please.

CHUCHOEFINCA said...

I LOVE U MONK.

Monklish said...

The moment I'm Back said that "Sufjan will be there", everyone's bullshit meter should have started beeping loudly.

Anonymous said...

Monk-

Do you think the Stones are the 3rd headliner?

Monklish said...

Not really.

popsicill said...

Bad Books?

surreal said...

thanks Monklish for the update .

Anonymous said...

what are the chances blonde redhead will make the line up?

Anonymous said...

Any word on The Decemberists making a return this year?

Anonymous said...

Best video ever!!!

Anonymous said...

Now that The Strokes have announced that they are done, I would expect them on the bill. They played festivals last year with no new material so let the serious Coachella talk begin. And please no
Rolling Stones
Kanye West
Kings of Leon
Gaga

Anonymous said...

If the Kings of Leon or Rolling Stones play, it's going to be a major let down.

Anonymous said...

Monk, do you think The White Stripes will be there? Has Golden Voice even explored that possibility?

Anonymous said...

When do you think tickets will go on sale? Christmas time? If the stones rumors are true I hope they do some single day tickets so the majority of tickets aren't bought by 50&60 year olds.

Anonymous said...

Does It Offend You, Yeah? It does. Please.

Anonymous said...

When do you think tickets will go on sale? Christmas time? If the stones rumors are true I hope they do some single day tickets so the majority of tickets aren't bought by 50&60 year olds.

The rolling stones would be a great headliner in my opinion, how can you pass on one of the greatest bands of all time? But I'd they are going to need 5-6 million to play I'd rather have great 2nd and 3rd line acts everyday, like last year.

Anonymous said...

Unless it's Paul McCartney, Geezer rock has no place at the Polo Grounds. The Stones would be a terrible headliner. Honestly, most people would get bored and hit-up the tents.

Put it this way: they might not even be alive in April.

ballroomdancer said...

The Rolling Stones are not going to be there, so GV can distribute the wealth amongst the undercard

so its safe to assume the other two(maybe three) headliners will be
Arcade Fire
Beastie Boys and Daft Punk

my money is on Coldplay being the last at the moment

leaning on these as the subs:
Interpol The Strokes n The Cars

Anonymous said...

I want to see KRISTEENYOUNG on that list otherwise it will be a big bummer

Anonymous said...

Hey Monk. Loving your work as usual this year.

Any thoughts on Phosphorescent being the crossover band for Coachella to Stagecoach?

Also, I don't know if Jack White is playing with Loretta Lynn at Stagecoach, but I know he produced, or helped with her new album...anything you heard about a White Stripes appearance?

For subs: Smashing Pumpkins? Weezer? Beck? Culture Club? Are any of these possibilities?

Lastly I'll name some people that are always there and what form they may be appearing as...do you know anything?

Perry Farrell - Jane's Addiction (sub-headliner)?
Mike Patton - Mondo Cane?
Busy P - Busy P?
Josh Homme - Queens of the Stone Age?

Sorry for the inquisition. Feel free to answer any of these! Thanks, Monk.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry to have to ask this...but what's MEN stand for?

Monklish said...

MEN is a Le Tigre side project. http://www.myspace.com/men

Anonymous said...

Not checking out your blog.

Monklish said...

Now nobody is checking out your blog.

Anonymous said...

wiz khalifa?
brandon flowers?

Anonymous said...

So if you don't think DP Beasties and AF will be the 3 headliners, which of those acts WON'T headline?

Anonymous said...

and just in case it wasn't obvious that last comment was directed at Monklish, not any of you other dumb fucks.

Anonymous said...

hey monk. Wu-Tang Clan is touring. What are the chances

Anonymous said...

Hey monk,

Is it really out of the question for Sufjan to show up at Coachella?

Anonymous said...

Monklish is toying with your hearts. The only reason he/she put Daft Punk on the list is to get your hopes up because he/she knows how bad you want it, and he/she is finally taking revenge on the people who call him/her names.

get a life.

Jason said...

Royksopp announced they will be touring and are confimred for Ultra. What about them for Coachllea, Monklish? Any chance?

Anonymous said...

Anybody that says he/she about Monk obviously has no fucking idea about who's gonna be there and who's not. Daft Punk will be there. Just start fldreaking about their new stage set up now!!!

Anonymous said...

Any word on Kenny Rogers performing?

Anonymous said...

Band of Joy would fit the rare acts bill that Coachella usually brings.

Elektro said...

Monk -

Why the sudden addition of Daft Punk after your post on 11/7?

Monklish said...

I am not certain what your question is.

CHUCHOEFINCA said...

Monk! Any word on Ghostland Observatory?

Anonymous said...

Any chance Bowie might be the third headliner?

How about the National? Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry solo?

Anonymous said...

Daft Punk isn't playing. HOORAY!

Anonymous said...

PLEASE DON'T BE LYING ABOUT DAFT PUNK!!! my childhood dreams would be shattered...

Anonymous said...

Per article on consequence of sound doesn't sound like they will be.

Anonymous said...

@anon 4:55

Way to fail. That article does nothing to rule out coachella, except for the tron material which wasn't happening anyways

shabana said...

so the stones are definitely not headlining?

TomAZ said...

I'm a douchebag

Anonymous said...

Monklish-

Do you think that the Chemical Brothers will be there?

Seems like they will be doing the festivals this year.

Rob said...

Yeah, Chems just got booked for Ultra, so they'll have their live rig in the states (sort of) around that time

mob said...

TomAZ is a massive asshole

Monklish said...

I fuck myself with knives

Randycakes said...

So does your mom

Anonymous said...

with mf doom playing atp, any chance he could be at coachella?

Monklish said...

I was going to do a new post for Thanksgiving, but the only interesting new addition to my list is Duran Duran. Happy Thanksgiving.

@anon224 Probably not.

@anon1102 I would not expect them, but it could be a convenient booking as anon1149 suggests.

@anon946 As far as I have heard they are not playing.

@anon1056 I do not think that Bowie will ever do Coachella. The National seem like a possibilty. Roxy Music, who knows?

@CHUCHOEFINCA Have not heard anything about Ghostland Observatory.

Anonymous said...

60 days til lineup announcement. Could be a lot of surprised between now and then. Nobody really suspected Jay-Z or Gorillaz last year.

Anonymous said...

Gorillas were highly rumored starting about this time if you read any blogs elsewhere. On a gorillas website it said they were headlining early on.

Anonymous said...

Duran duran? Seriously? Headliner?

What is the word on pulp?

Anonymous said...

Duran Duran is not a headliner retard.

Anonymous said...

White Stripes reunion would be money along with Daft Punk and throw the roots and the beastie boys and thats the goods. Big Boi would be a better show than eminem and dr dre together. Cee Lo has a new album out thats not to bad as well

Anonymous said...

There isn't a concert promoter in the world that would put Big Boi over Dre and Eminem.

Anonymous said...

THE ROOTS!

Anonymous said...

outkast reunion, the roots, wu-tang?

Anonymous said...

Any word on Royksopp?

Anonymous said...

For hip hop how about...

The Roots
Lupe Fiasco
Curren$y
Jay Electronica
El-P
Shad
Blackstar
Blu
Brother Ali
Dilated Peoples
DJ Shadow
Immortal Technique

hip hopchella. and not even one of them would be headliners. sound good?

ballroomdancer said...

jay electronica, lauryn hill, kid cudi, a tribe called quest, raekwon, spank rock being considered as far rap/r n b

surreal said...

Monklish , im hearing that Arcade Fire is not going to make the line up . Have you heard anything on this ?

Anonymous said...

Any word if maybe Beady Eye will be at the polo fields?

Anonymous said...

I don't like the Daft Punk about how "they're so proud of their film score that they will tour on it." Like the video said the soundtrack is mostly orchestral movie music. The only song on the whole album I can see them playing along with their other stuff id probably "Derezzed."

Anonymous said...

monk, do u think Beck could be there? and would he be a headliner or a sub u think?

Anonymous said...

are the Tribe called quest rumors true?

Anonymous said...

u know who is back together and did 2 LA shows ??? SPACEHOG. now THAT would be cool...

Anonymous said...

Eminem!!!!!!!!!!! it make sense, give him friday!!! better than Jay Z that is for sure

Anonymous said...

Fuck Eminiem

Efrin said...

Monklish-

What about Autolux? Gold Panda would appear to be a lock also, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Mux Mool either. What do you think?

Anonymous said...

Any word on The Tallest Man on Earth? Royksopp?

Tough Reality said...

i hate to be the one to break this to the fans of this great festival, but this year will unfortunately be similar to the situation that happened after the initial release of the lineup in 2008. most of the acts rumored, especially the headliners (yes, even arcade fire) are not going to be there. this is the time of year when rumors are at the peak, so don't get your hopes up because aside from maybe one artist/s, most of the lineup is going to be repeats. the one artist/s is not radiohead, daft punk, bowie, or pulp. it is someone that would generally be considered an unwelcome guest among the typical coachella veteran community.

Tough Reality said...

sorry....edit. not repeats, but more like smaller, expected acts, in addition to a lot (at least for this festival) of repeats. the bigger(ish) sunday headliner is someone you've heard on the radio many, many times.

Anonymous said...

fahk eff ya queah..

Anonymous said...

@Tough Reality

You sound like you don't know what you're talking about outside of knowing one headliner who sounds like Eminem or Kanye West. How was that for a guess?

Anonymous said...

you can always hear the headliners on the radio

This will be unnecessary, but...

99 - Beck/Tool or Rage I wasn't there...
01 - Jane's Addiction
02 - Bjork/Oasis
03 - Beastie Boys/Red Hot Chili Peppers
04 - Radiohead/the Cure
05 - Coldplay/NIN
06 - Depeche Mode/Tool
07 - Bjork/RHCP/Rage
08 - Jack Johnson/Prince/Roger Waters
09 - MaCCa/The Killers/The Cure
10 - Jay-Z/Muse/Gorillaz

@ Tough Reality

While you may be right that some bands won't show up (Daft Punk) you're also just talking out your ass. Also, as shown by the list above, don't try to make it sound like hearing someone on the radio will make it lame for them to play at Coachella.

Anonymous said...

Have you heard anything about No Doubt playing?

Anonymous said...

any chance The Who will be playing since they were supposed to last year?

Anonymous said...

The Who would be the worst headliners or even subheadliners ever.

Anonymous said...

I'd rather see Jack Johnson than the who or the stones

Anonymous said...

monk!

whats the news on these bands

Cold War Kids have a new ep coming out seems like they can play!

Broken bells and Cee Lo Green be there?
or would it be Gnarls Barkley and maybe the shins?

You would rather have Jack Johnson than The Who?!!??

Monk...what about Violens, Suede, Strokes, BRMC, and Goldenvoice needs to bring back X; one of the best sets I have seen during 5 Coachellas!

Adam said...

Monk any truth to Tough Reality's claims? Any word on the sweedish movement namely Radio Dept, Royksopp, Tough Alliance and JJ

Monklish said...

@Adam ToughReality said that Arcade Fire will not be there, so it is safe to say that all their claims are nonsense. None of the headliners will be an 'unwelcome guest' as they suggested. The rest of their comments were vague easily predictable statements a la 'One of the headliners will be a male fronted group' to their lots of radio play claim.

Anonymous said...

Einstuerzende Neubauten at the Mojave PLEASE?!?!?!?!

Monklish said...

@anon242 The press relase for their tour cancellation said that they have no plans to reschedule the dates, so it is not likely that they are coming back any time soon.

Anonymous said...

monk is it true that Cold War Kids will be at coachella this year!?
and heard anything about Two Door Cinema Club?

Anonymous said...

Heard from the man himself that Datsik will be playing the new Bass stage

I'm Back said...

Add DJ Shadow as a headliner in Sahara.

Anonymous said...

DJ Shadow would definitely not headline the Sahara.

Anonymous said...

DJ Shadow could definitely headline the Sahara! Not only was he at the original Coachella, look at his new stage set up.

IMO, Plastikman and Etienne should not be headliners either, but the spectacles they put on boost their headliner cred...

In the same vein, how late in the day will Magnetic Man play? Assuming he has the same set up he's been bringing to festivals this past year?

Monk, UPDATE soon pleeease.

Monklish said...

Update will come tomorrow.

Monklish said...

@anon911 Nothing that I have heard yet.

@anon750 I am posting everything that I know in mostly real time this year, so this is mostly just conjecture, but

Loretta Lynn is more famous for her non Jack White career than her record with him, so do not expect for them to perform together.

If they want to do a crossover, Phosphorescent seems like the most likely candidate. Have not heard this, yet, but they are the type of band who usually confirms earlier than lineup release.

Beck is always welcome, so it depends on his desire to play and whether or not he needs to count against their budget.

I can not imagine that they would have interest in the Smashing Pumpkins.

I can see them booking Weezer to play the Blue Album, though. Do not have a way to verify if it is happening, though.

Never have heard Culture Club rumored for any Coachella.

Perry is always there. Janes Addiction will not be there.

Mondo Cane would be neat. I am sure they are looking into it for one of their rare odd acts.

If Josh Homme plays, it will be part of a Queens of the Stone Age set.

Busy P is usually there, as well, as you all know.

Monklish said...

@anon735 I am sure a lot of the bands you listed will be there, but I am fairly certain that you got most of the headliners wrong.

Anonymous said...

Nice Monk, thank you for answering my post! Keep up the good work! Hope you drop some knowledge on us today.
