The final stretch.

In spite of what you've read on Twitter, lineup will be announced tomorrow.

___________________________________

No factual basis other than I've heard it's possible (My faith is wavering based on various factors that these might occur, that is, these names have been thrown around by the organizers and people that I know which aren't associated with organizing the festival and/or they seem relatively unlikely to occur to me on a personal level):

so monk... what is your opinion of the line up? you like it? is it a good one?

Anonymous said...

So if it's not Jane's Addiction and it's not NIN, who the hell is the American headliner? Unless it's the Killers, but then that means the other has to be a non-American repeat, ie The Cure or Oasis (since most of the others have been eliminated). McCartney, The Cure, The Killers?

Monklish said...

Hopefully, I was wrong about one of them being American.

Anonymous said...

The Cure and Beastie Boys have not been debunked yet, I noticed.

Monklish said...

@anon730: I like the lineup. I get to see a Beatle.

Monklish said...

No Beastie Boys.

Barbara said...

i hate you

Monklish said...

Why?

rene said...

u said no to nin right? and trent?

Monklish said...

Probably not for NIN

I just got this email from Goldenvoice:

"Hey guys!

First off, did anyone else spend quality time with their co-workers this afternoon huddled around a computer watching ABC7's LIVE streaming web cast of the U-haul truck chase? We sure did! Wondering if we cheered loudly when the truck clipped a car on the road? WE SURE DID!

Now, it's been one hectic week here in the offices since the postponement this past weekend of the Animal Collective show at the Fonda. No worries though, we are working on rescheduling the show for the near future. Stay tuned for more info. Thanks to everyone who follows Goldenvoice and the Fonda on Twitter and re-tweeted the news to their friends. You all helped out a lot!

We've also been preparing to announce the anticipated Coachella lineup that's got all of you, bloggers, and pretty much the whole internet spazzing out. Don't believe anything or anyone until you've heard it straight from us! Do however, get ready to save that mullah and be blown away. You can follow Coachella's tweets here. Speaking of festivals, who else is excited to get tattooed at the 2nd Annual MUSINK Tattoo Convention and Music Fest?! We totally are and you should be too! It's three whole days full of amazing music and 200+ of the world's finest tattoo artists. Get your tickets here.

Whew...what an exciting week!"

Anonymous said...

Well I know the lineup hasn't been released yet, but I really wanted to see Muse and Kings of Leon. You've already said that Muse will not be be there. How about the Kings?

Mike said...

(Starr 7:31pm)
Neil Young is the answer, or The Killers.

Sam said...

Monklish how sure are you that Neil Young and My Bloody Valentine are playing? I don't care if they're headliners or not (they should be though), I just really want to see them both.

Mike said...

To clarify what we are looking at is :

Paul Macca- (non-american new)
The Cure- (non-American repeat)
Neil Young/ The Killers (American new)

That seems about right, or if not the cure it will be Morrissey (non-american), which makes them all new, unless people are just counting if they have been at Coachella before (not headliners) then The Killers would be the repeat.

Or... the Intern could be right and we are looking at 2 americans and 1 non-american. That also seems plausible.

Anonymous said...

Someone is threatening to "out" you:
http://coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25878

Anonymous said...

Neil Young is not American, he's Canadian.

Anonymous said...

Yes, put all your trust and faith into suprefan, hahahah you guys are fucking tools

Mike said...

If Neil Young is Canadian then The Killers are the headliner (American), the other 2 headliners are Macca (non-american new) and The Cure (Non-american repeat) which fit Monklish's claim.

The Killers are great but I wouldn't see them as a headliner unless Goldenvoice couldn't get anyone better. But if so this IS how it will play out:

Fri- The Cure
Sat- The Killers
Sun- Paul Macca

hmm... Im happy with that.

Anonymous said...

I'm incredibly optimistic about The Smiths again. GV holds up the lineup, tells us we'll be "blown away" when it comes out and suddenly Johnny Marr isn't touring with Modest Mouse! I dunno, seems like something's up here. They wouldn't hold it up and get our hopes up this high if it's McCartney, The Cure and The Killers. Something tells me that something much bigger is afoot here.

Mike said...

Macca, The Cure, and The Killers im sure is pretty big for most people. You have to remember GV does have a budget.

Anonymous said...

here's the lineup: http://defamer.com/5141335/paul-mccartney-neil-young-usher-in-coachellas-year-of-the-geezer-hoax

it says hoax in the url but its not. what happened was the lineup was supposed to be announced on LA radio stations but it got retracted by goldenvoice. However, ryan secreast already posted it on his blog. Immediately later it got taken down, but not before all the names were written and some music news website wrote about the blog post

Anonymous said...

Macca, The Killers and The Cure is a fine Coachella lineup, pretty much on par with the last few lineups they've given us. I feel like they wouldn't tell us we'd be blown away or hold it up all this time if that's all we're getting, however.

Anonymous said...

Heard a rumor that Dylan is changing around European tour dates.

Mike said...

I don't think they are holding it up all this time to build up anticipation, im pretty sure they just don't have everything set yet.

Anonymous said...

(PVBHFILH) That is absolutely not true. They just took it off of Ryan's website because they realized it was the fake one, obviously no credited radio station or media personnel is going to leave up a fake list on their website after they find out it is fake.

Anonymous said...

im sad about the white stripes not being on the list of 100% guaranteed =(

Anonymous said...

Plus the list doesn't make complete sense. There are some repeats from last year and some big bands that are way too far down the list i.e. The Shins,

Anonymous said...

Dr. Dre rumor?

Anonymous said...

They are either waiting on the Smiths or they are still finalizing what day each artist is playing.

Anonymous said...

What is with everyone's obsession with The Smiths? They're not even on any of the confirmed rumors list on any site that I have seen. I doubt they will be there.

Anonymous said...

THE WHITE STRIPES? Yes? No? Maybe rain maybe so? Sorry for the caps you didn't respond to my last comment. Thanks for your time monk!

Anonymous said...

Also is there any way to contact you?
I wouldn't post it here because anon d-bags might spam you or something.

From COS,

(1/29) 9:00 p.m. Update: Needless to say, today has been quite eventful. Between the early morning too good to be true fake lineup posting and Ryan Seacrest’s afternoon announcement fiasco, Coachella ‘09 certainly left it’s mark, just not with a lineup.

Yes, day three of where in the world is Coachella’s 2009 lineup has come and gone leaving plenty of dashed hopes and angered, tired minds. However, we can confirm, via Mr. Paul Tollett, aka the chief architect of Coachella, himself that a lineup announcement will not be coming tonight. Per The L.A. Times:

“I know everybody is going crazy, but we’re not stalling, we’re still working on the show. Everything we do is in service of the show, not in service of the announcement of the show. Believe me, we’re excited to tell everybody and we want to tell everybody, but the show is still being put together.”

Anonymous said...

Monklish - Are you actually a Coachella Message Board Member named "Suprefan"? There's a whole thread now dedicated to this. People are convinced there is no Monklish Jones, but this douche named "Suprefan"

Anonymous said...

Surprise! Some dude that has a blog is a douche.

Anonymous said...

suprefan=monklish=tool

Anonymous said...

Monklish = Suprefan... ON THE MESSAGE BOARDS

Anonymous said...

Who cares who Monklish is, you people must really be bored.

Anonymous said...

Paul is finalizing everything as we speak. Just hold on. I know Coachella blue balls are hard, but this happens every year so everyone should be used to it by now. The lineup will be revealed shortly.

In the mean time, everyone is getting warmer so keep on guessing. Realistically though, don't just name a band or DJ that you want to see, actually do your research.

Mike said...

Come on!!! Just give us something to work with Intern!

Anonymous said...

Fine, one of the headliner's name is on this page.

Anonymous said...

You're going to be sorely disappointed.

Anonymous said...

Dude what's the official lineup?

Anonymous said...

are the smiths a definite no monk??????

Monklish said...

What a weird morning. Apparently, I'm a guy named Suprefan, which is some information that will surely startle my parents.

I got spammed by some guy selling a picture of a pudgy hunky browed guy in a hat on CafePress. Weird.

Also, some one posted the contact information for some guy named Randy Mills. I'll be polite and remove it so he doesn't get spammed.

So last week, I was a guy named Chris. This week, I'm apparently a Coachella board poster named Suprefan.

Wow...

Monklish said...

@Intern: Do shut up. Two of the headliners names are on this page. You're bad at pretending to have knowledge.

Anonymous said...

Not to worry Monk, some people
on here actually forget your doing us a favor by getting us closer to the line up rumors or not. They dont have to view your blog if they dont want to, yet they come back daily for more, which is pretty funny. Keep up the good work.

Anonymous said...

Will the line-up looks something like this?
The White Stripes
The Cure
Paul McCartney?

Anonymous said...

Will the line-up looks something like this?
The White Stripes

Paul McCartney?

Anonymous said...

I'm 99% sure Okkervil River is playing...

Anonymous said...

@anon 10:43
whats your basis for that statement?

Anonymous said...

smiths definite no???

Anonymous said...

Any chance the repeat headliner could be Coldplay ?

Anonymous said...

2 of these bands WILL headline:

Paul McCartney
The Cure
The Killers
Neil Young
Morrissey

I guarantee it 100%.

Anonymous said...

Oasis
Neil Young
Macca

Anonymous said...

Cloud Cult are 100% playing Coachella

Monklish said...

@Jake: all 5 of those bands are playing, so you're not making that bold of a statement.

Anonymous said...

Dude, Monklish why are you in such a bad mood today? You don't have to be snappy and pretentious. Im sorry people are asses but you don't have to take it out on everyone.

Thanks for confirming those 5, because I am happy with any 3 of those headlining. It seems liek Coachella is going to be pretty damn good this year.

Anonymous said...

just morrisey monk????? or is there a POSSIBLE smith reunion?? hmm monk monk?

Monklish said...

@Jake: sorry, just still a bit bitter that I had to wake up to more nonsense about me being a guy named Chris. Chris emailed me to comment on the whole ordeal, and he was surprisingly pleasant for someone caught up in this weirdness.

Anonymous said...

Sorry you had to endure that. I just got one question.

When is the lineup coming out so I can stop waking up every morning with my hopes up?

If the answer is "I don't know", that is ok too, I just need to know the truth.

Does anybody on this planet even know when the lineup is coming out?

Monklish said...

I don't know. It won't come out as a surprise. All the normal radio station outlets will advertise it again.

At the moment, nobody really knows when it's coming out.

Anonymous said...

So youre saying The Cure is 100% there per Jake's comment? That doesn't sound right since their newest release was a bomb released late last year and they headlined Sasquatch last year already.

Unless you're saying Coachella is going to be loaded with a lot of big but slightly underwhelming names that aren't necessarily the headliners but still add up to make one really solid list of names, that sounds like a confusing assertion.

Anonymous said...

the cure would be grrrrreat, they are always good live....whatever this line up will be, im sure its going to be good....everyone just needs to chill out a bit...

Anonymous said...

just morrisey monk????? or is there a POSSIBLE smith reunion?? hmm monk monk?

LameCake said...

This has to be fake right?
http://www.popcrunch.com/coachella-2009-lineup-revealed/

Anonymous said...

Just got off the phone with Paul Banks and they decided to go ahead and play this year because of the new album! So another confirmed act is Interpol.......you saw it here first!

Anonymous said...

Hey Monk, can you eliminate the possibility of U2...there are some rumors/wishful thinking out there, and I don't see them on your lists at all

Anonymous said...

@RnR if interpol plays that would be amazing... please tell me your not fucking around like alot of others....

Anonymous said...

@LameCake.

You should probably learn to research something or just click on a link before asking about it. That was a fake lineup posted by none other than ryanseacrest.com which was debunked yesterday.

Anonymous said...

why would anyone believe ryan seacrest. that guys a piece of shit.

Anonymous said...

haha yeah i bet he felt like a giant dueshbag yesterday for thinking he knew the list, and that he would possibly be the first to revel it.....lame

LameCake said...

I knew it was fake, I just thought it was really funny. I mean come on, Kate Perry, gross.

Anonymous said...

One more note! I spoke with a friend over at Hear Music and apparently not all is well with regards to Sir Paul and Goldenvice. GV wants Paul to use a all-star line up of "alt" musicians to appeal to the Coachella crowd but he is reluctant to do it so don't be surprised if he is not on the bill! I think this may be one of the reasons why the announcment has not been made yet.

To Anon 2:53- Interpol will be there as long as they (GV) agree to pay for the transporting of equipment from NY...AND they are able to line up some small venues to play on the west coast for a couple of weeks. This according to P. Banks. (I personally think they will play by the way he talked)!

Anonymous said...

come on people every year some asshole with a lot of extra time on his hands makes some lame predictions. Of course 1/3 might be right. It's not very hard to guess some cool indy bands about to release a cd or who just released a big one. After all he is three days late on when he was so sure the lineup would be released. Paul Tollett says he's still working on it. So get a life , you get all these morons excited for no reason

Anonymous said...

your an idiot anon 4:06

Anonymous said...

RnR guy: hopefully that means the Chemical Brothers will do a remix of Tomorrow Never Knows which will be punctuated by Sir Paul murdering Katy Perry with his Revolver (groan)

Anonymous said...

Hmm... hopefully the Sasquatch gets announced before Coachella does.

Anonymous said...

Re: Anonymous said...

@anon 10:43

Answer: A band member of O.River/friend told me so.

Anonymous said...

so when's this thing comin out....

Hey Monk, I have posted on here before, and I have recently been forced to make an account for school. Anyways, I hope you decide to do the blog again next year, as it seems we are getting the lineup tomorrow (YES!!!). Did that email tell you time by any chance? I am hoping to catch it sometime in between classes or something. Thanks.

Mike said...

Thank you (anon 7:24pm)

Anonymous said...

an easy way for Monklish to show exactly what she knows is to quickly set up another blog and post headliners and anyone else she feels confident will be playing.

the post will be time-stamped and once it's announced tomorrow she can come back here and post the URL so we can see how much she got right

Anonymous said...

This fool does not know a god damn thing about the line up you abominable morons. Jesus Christ, give it up.

Monklish said...

I've confirmed two out of three headliners on here, already, and I've emailed enough people the situation with the third to cover myself in case of a validation check, but to be honest, I don't care too much. Tomorrow will prove itself to be fruitful with my blog, and perhaps, people will be less dicks in 2010 after they see what they've been dealing with and if I still want to continue this blog next year

Monklish said...

@anon922: calling people a fool is my line. you're supposed to call me a fraud, i believe.

The lineup will be released tomorrow. So sometime after midnight tonight I will reveal the headliners and the supporting acts on this blog.

Anonymous said...

No Chemical Brothers is a true disappointment seeing as this festival was made out to be any techno fan's wet dream. But they were the key.

Anonymous said...

Monklish - your list ended up being as accurate as I had predicted the whole time...a math equation based on already existing public info. Nice that you did the work, but the bombastic claims of being an insider panned out as being rubbish.

Hope you enjoyed the attention. If I wasn't such a Coachella addict (loser), I wouldn't have even gave a shit about your blog. But, Paul T starved me, like everyone else, this year so I ended up consuming everything....including this silly blog.

However, if some of your "perhaps" get added later (Underworld, Basement Jaxx, Moby, Ladytron), I will kiss your feet.

But, seriously....what happened to the rock in coachella (headliner-wise)!?
