throw us a bone Monklish! How long b4 this blog and the Coachella board go crazy over the announcement?

Anonymous said...

go on . . . . . . .

Anonymous said...

its chemical bros and the prodigy getting added just wait and see

Starr said...

What is this, 1997? Chemical Brothers and Prodigy? Meh. Let's at least get some relevant electronic acts like Basement Jaxx and Royksopp.

Anonymous said...

Doves

b-man said...

you are talking about coachella and not sasquatch correct????

Anonymous said...

blah blah blah

bludevil007 said...

what's the deal monk?

martin said...

Monklish.... common... !!!!

Chemical Brothers still on?... any leads for Saturday Headliner?

Goldenvoice said there will be more additions for the sahara tent (i hope) any news on that?

shabana said...

headliners?

Gash said...

Amy Winehouse will be removed from lineup this week. While she wants to play her management believes that she will not be ready...you heard it here first!!!!

This leaves Goldenvoice with an even weaker Saturday lineup!!!!!

b-man said...

Comeon Monk give a hint

Anonymous said...

this is to starr: if you appreciate electronic music you must be crazy not to want prodigy and chem bros, if you want to party, THEY ARE THE PARTY

pleaseee let them playyy

BOARDS OF CANADA

Starr said...

Honestly, I'd more than welcome the Chemical Brothers, they make fine music. But I saw Prodigy at Coachella in 2005, and while fun and nostalgic, it was merely an average show. I definitely don't feel the need to ever see them again. I don't feel that liking the Prodigy is a requisite to liking electronic music at all. Maybe a requisite for liking bad, 1990s commercial electronic music perhaps.

Monklish said...

It's not official, yet, so I'll avoid being wrong and getting hopes up, but it sounds like something is coming down the pipe finally.

Also, as always, I don't post on the Coachella message board as "Monklish" or "Suprefan". Your emails continue to be annoying.

silly said...

people have been saying deadmau5 and NIN. I understand NIN doing Coachella before their hiatus but not deadmau5. If you have or haven't seen deadmau5 you're not missing anything.

Anonymous said...

Not gonna be doves they play earlier that week in the UK.
Monklish, is it a reunion or just another big name? Sat or sun? Thanks!!

Blakely said...

Is it just one band? Or a few?

martin said...

can you make a list of posibles ...like before?

Anonymous said...

Can you give us a hint? Are we talking main stage or sahara or other? Or plural?

Anonymous said...

Gee, that's a leap. Say something's coming down the pipeline, and then when an addition happens, you can say "I told you so".

Genius.

Anonymous said...

U2

Anonymous said...

Won't be Daft Punk. They won't be active until 2010. And that comes from inside Daft Arts, their production company.

Won't be NIN. They're doing a co-headlining tour with Jane's Addiction. They'll be busy.

U2? Highly unlikely.

Blur? Nope. Won't perform in the States until AFTER their UK gigs.

Keep guessing.

Anonymous said...

Pet Shop Boys?

Anonymous said...

I doubt pet shop boys would inspire any kind of spirited "excitement" if they were added to the line up.

G said...

Jamiroquai? Royksopp? Fever Ray? Basement Jaxx? Orbital? Outkast? Gorillaz?

Anonymous said...

I bet it's Oasis! There tour is open as of now

Anonymous said...

Neil Young? Metallica (lol)? Fever Ray?

Anonymous said...

It will be announced any day now that Depeche Mode will be playing the Hard Rock in Vegas Grand Re-Opening of the Joint on April 16th...one night before the Killers play. It only makes sense that they play Coachella on Saturday as their new album comes out a few days later and they are not launching a full US tour until July as they are going to Europe first in the first week of May.

G said...

Human League and Madness plz

bludevil007 said...

ugh, it's going to be depeche mode isn't it? their coachella set was so lame last time, thank god i left for the sahara then.

martin said...

DEPECHE MODE??? ...if what you say is true about the Vegas Show, it makes a lot of sense that they will be playing on Coachella, since they dont have a tour in the US, and a tour in Europe.

Monklish??...what can you say about this?

Anonymous said...

Ok...Monlish. Time for you to chime in for real on the DM rumor. I am about to book my flight and if this is true (Vegas and Coachella) I may even try to go to Vegas as well. Can you let us know if you have heard anything about DM???

I'm a big fan and would extend my trip cause of this.

Jesus Lizard said...

the White Stripes
the Chemical Brothers
Basement Jaxx

will be added.

Anonymous said...

Ahem.. It says EXCITEMENT.

Anonymous said...

Actually it's The Jesus Lizard. Duhhh.

Anonymous said...

"Neil Young and The Smiths...I overheard Paul Tollett say so."

Anonymous said...

I can understand not wanting to spill the beans, only to have them not come true (like the above-mentioned Smiths and Neil Young fake leaks), but if what information you have turns out to be true, how would you rate it on the scale of epicness, from one to ten?

Anonymous said...

the white stripes are playing on conans last episode.... hmmmm theyre more likely now than they were. i hope this is the excitement that was mentioned

martin said...

Ok, Depeche Mode has US tour dates.

And they are flying overseas to do some radio shows, for promotion of the new album.... coachella, quick stop?

MON....info?

Anonymous said...

Depeche Mode is NOT playing Coachella.

Monklish said...

Sounds like Kode9 and Flying Lotus are playing in the dome. And the dome is back.

Anonymous said...

what that the big news monklish?

Anonymous said...

So is The Dome the big news? Do u have any news on a possible headliner for Sat? Or are The Killers a lock 4 the headlining slot?

Anonymous said...

You are all meat guzzlers for wanting new headliners on so and so night. Coachella already rules. In fact, Coachella is so epic this year, that I want them to remove some headliners.

Anonymous said...

all i want to say is that whoever plays , which ever night.its always good.good friends, good memories, and always ....evrey year.....good music....enjoy this time my friends.

Anonymous said...

I am almost positive that Dr. Dre rumor is coming true.

Anonymous said...

@ anon 8:04, I agree. I would love for the Killers to be removed.

Anonymous said...

Dre? ^^^

if you are fucking with me I will be really pissed

Jason said...

GOD DAMMIT MONKLISH THROW US A BONE!!!!!!!

Sorry. Im just a tad overexcited.

Anonymous said...

It won't be NIN, they're headlining (or co-headlining as it were) Sasquatch. They won't do two festivals on the west coast a month and a half apart.

I was disappointed by the White Stripes' Conan performance last night, but I'd love to see them live again and at least now we know Meg is still alive, so there's a possibility. Also maybe Green Day?

Anonymous said...

My first coachella was last year and so I looked up the dome, and a lot of things I read said that it really fucked up the sound for outdoor stage and bled sound all over. True? It couldn't be worse than the little techno mushroom land place last year could it?

durh said...

i say depeche

Anonymous said...

Monk can you at least eliminate some names? Like The White Stripes

mark d said...

I'm going with Springsteen, Basement Jaxx, Depeche Mode, & Kings of Leon. Springsteen is playing a lot of festivals this summer in the U.S. and out...he played the super bowl...Prince played the super bowl (i know that's stupid)...I just love Basement Jaxx and they've been on the rumored list for so long. According to this message board the Depeche Mode rumor seems really likely, and Kings of Leon has a break during that time....as if this year can't get any better any of these bands being added would be spectacular to say the least, thanks monk, thanks coachella. See you all there again.

Anonymous said...

Depeche Mode won't be added. This was debunked by a coachella board member who has credibility.

Anonymous said...

So... wtf is going on here? "Excitement" can only tell us so much.

rene said...

did they removed stars or am i trippin?

Anonymous said...

I don't recall the stars ever being on the line up this year.

Anonymous said...

It's been over a week .. please give us a hint!

Ryan said...

BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE WILL BE SATURDAY'S REPLACEMENT HEADLINER OVER THE KILLERS.

It's a fucking fact at this point.

I'm excited.

Anonymous said...

Oasis and Weezer will be added due there spring tour. Will be announced in a few weeks.

Anonymous said...

Broken Social Scene is not a replacement for the Killers. The Killers have sold way more records, and although I enjoy BSS more than the killers they will not be replacing them as a headliner. But thanks for trying.

Blakely said...

Real cute ryan

i heard it's a performance by bob dylan's ass via telephone

Anonymous said...

Faith No More??? REALLY!?!?

Monklish said...

nobody is replacing the Killers as Saturday's headliners.

Anonymous said...

The Killers will be CO-HEADLINERS. Guaranteed. This comes from a source inside Goldenvoice.

Depeche Mode? No.

Blur? No.

Oasis? No.

Daft Punk? No.

Someone on this board was spot-on with their assumption. Think reunion.

Anonymous said...

so white stripes then right... thats kind of a reunion

Since no one is replacing the Killers does that mean no Springsteen? If the Smiths are going to play they'll play in Morrisey's spot on Friday...the E street band is a reunion...I can't think of anything else..are the Murder City Devils a reunion?...cuz if so I'm not excited. That's great for those who are, but Monklish said excitement, so that should mean something bigger...right...anybody?

Anonymous said...

Monklish was prly talking about the Dome at Coachella playing until 4 am. It only benefits ppl who are camping and do drugs all night. So if there is a big name to be added I would just wait to see it on a poster. Prly won't get info on here.

Anonymous said...

White Stripes?

Anonymous said...

White Stripes, a reunion? Hardly. They never split up. It was only a hiatus.

It's not them.

I stated a REUNION. Not as highly publicized as the Smiths rumor, which will never happen. And was a rumor only.

Monklish assumes she possesses this knowledge, but truly has no clue who it might be.

I'll put my money where my mouth is, which is far more than what she'll do. She can claim she has "sources" all day long. And guess who her sources are? Other sites blogging the same old bullshit rumors EVERYONE has been hearing from day one.

I look forward to reading her witless retort and her erroneous lineup assumptions.

b-man said...

Reunion, been suggested on the board, will make Killers Co-Headliners (meaning not quite big enough to top) Id say Janes Addiction??? hope that means NIN comes along

Monklish said...

feel free to list the other sites that blog about this. i'll wait.

b-man said...

Monk was the dome what you were talking about or is it something else that might be?

Stefan said...

faith no more!

Anonymous said...

you two are defeating the purpose of this board (which was great btw) by sitting on your information. if it's smart, unconfirmed speculation, provide it to the group as such. we can find confirmed acts as they pop up anywhere.

Anonymous said...

The information has already been disclosed. There's nothing to add at this point. If you haven't figured it out, you aren't reading closely enough.

Anonymous said...

clearly, it's faith no more janes jesus lizard.

The Source said...

Jane's Addiction will split top billing with the Killers. Sorry about the bad news, kids.

Anonymous said...

Monklish doesn't know shit....she won't put her money where her mouth is, which makes this whole blog pointless.

Anonymous said...

Chemical Brothers are likely be added soon, but it's going to be a DJ set, so love it or hate it. I'll spout what Monklish won't because she has no spine.

we spoke of not wanting to go do a bloated version of something we had done a long time ago. that the only way to go forward was to take it back. way back. to the beautiful dark spirit that got the whole story started. get in fighting shape. play some small clubs. try to write some new material.

this was written by Eric , the bass player for Janes Addiction , doesnt make sense to me that they would play a festival like Coachella , ....although i hope im wrong .

always sunny in philedelphia live is on there as well. but i dont know how much i believe someone who gives a word search of bands that will be added.

Van She is on there

I am not looking to believe anything here other then what Monklish says. I just wanted to play word jumble.

murder city devils got added to sunday. pt said so on twitter

Mark D's Surrogate Brother said...

Nobody is going to be added to Sat, unless Winehouse drops out. The Dome is the addition to Sat, Monklish said there is no one replacing The Killers. Which leaves only a DJ option for a sat add, but the dome takes that spot.

Therefore, any new additions will be for Fri or Sun, most likely Sun because that is the weaker day.

My bet is on Springsteen headlining over The Cure, he is in LA and free during that weekend. And/Or Basement Jaxx coming on after The Cure to close the night off like Justice did on Sun last year.

Anonymous said...

You're a fucking idiot.

martin said...

why in the world would Chemical Brothers do a DJset? theyve played like 4 times and always Live...

Anonymous said...

a major addition will be announced soon, but not tonight.. ;)

Anonymous said...

Are you trying to start some blasphemous rumors again?

Anonymous said...

the reveal of the major addition is just a question of time..i don't think the my source would lie to me.. ;)

ITS GOING TO BE DEPECHE MODE SATURDAY!

Chris said...

Cool. I missed them last time to get a good spot for Daft Punk. Good decision. :)

Anonymous said...

That radio interview with Depeche Mode doesn't give us anymore info than we already had. Yes, they are rumored, that is not a confirmation nor a confirmation for sat. (martin).

If they are added to sat, they would replace Winehouse.

Anonymous said...

Not true Martin. Chemical Brothers have played four times, and three times have been live (1999, 2002, 2005) and once was a DJ set (2001). They don't have any tour or other shows planned at the moment, so they're not going to haul all their equipment out and put on a huge live show. They're gonna play a DJ set, which they have not done for SoCal for a very long time. Like I said, love it or hate it.

Anonymous said...

Depeche mode sucks.

So glad they won't be added.

Blah blah blah. Monklish is a chickenshit. If you know, spill it. Otherwise, don't bother with this stupid blog next year.

Anonymous said...

sounds a lot like a confirmation to me. although a recorded interview is still not as credible as a word search.

Try this:
(band X) is most likely going to play because (source Y).

For example,
Kinky is most likely going to play because the band told me so at their HOB show last night. A Goldenvoice contact at said show also mentioned that DM was in final negotiations.

Anonymous said...

for the second year in a row, the Saturday headliner has been bumped...details soon :)

Anonymous said...

hmmmmm. you mean GW has enough money to avoid two tschotke 'co-headliners' as their main attraction on the biggest night of the 10 year anniversary?

SURPRISE!!!!

Anonymous said...

Why the fuck wouldn't the Chemical Brothers play a live set? If it's their only show of the year, why not throw down the extra clams and go all out?

Yes for Chems.
Please No for DM.
And while we're at it, let's resurrect Kurt Cobain and have Nirvana headline Saturday.

Anonymous said...

There's a Kinky rumor now?
Their live shows are sick, I'd be more than happy to see them again!

MD's Brotha From Another Motha. said...

Nobody know anything about anything so stop making up your stupid fake stories and fake dates and attempting to state facts about bands and Djs.

The most logical thing to do is look up bands/DJs that have an opening in their schedule and have some reason to play (i.e. came out with a new album or will be). Then we can just drool over the rumors list until some actual additions are made.

Anonymous said...

The problem is, this is all these people have in their lives. Create false stories, post them anonymously, and call it a day. It's a magical thing.

Here is what I got so far, anyone feel free to add to my possibilities list:

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Depeche Mode
Basement Jaxx
Kings of Leon
Coldplay
The Decemberists
Bon Iver
Nine Inch Nails
M83
Grizzly Bear
Beastie Boys
Paul Oakenfold
Kaiser Chiefs

There definitely could be a reason that any of these won't play that I can't think of, but don't get on my case about it.

skylerstone said...

People. It is simple. Trust me. Paul is NOT going to have the BIGGEST Coachella night EVER (10th Anniversary on Sat night) be as weak as Amy and Killers. It is just not going to go down like that. It will either be Led Zeppelin or U2 or Dre/Eminem.

It could MAYBE be Kings Of Leon, Coldplay, Blur, White Stripes, Outkast, or

It will NOT Talking Heads (as Byrne is doing Bonnaroo by himself). It will NOT be Gorillaz (not big enough) or the Beasties (also doing Bonnaroo). Also will NOT be Depeche Mode (that would just be fucking lame).

But you know who it SHOULD be is of course, Bowie. But it just will not happen. Which is sad...

Most confusing thing ever is that The Cure was asked back. their last show was so monumentally UN-EPIC. Just terrible. UGH!

Anonymous said...

Clap once if you think Bruce Springsteen will be the new headliner for sunday...

Clap twice if you think it will be U2...

Clap thrice if you think it will be Depeche Mode...

Punch yourself if you think Bowie, Daft Punk, Radiohead, or the Smiths in full will be there...

Basement Jaxx will be added to Saturday to beef up the lineup, but no one is replacing the Killers.

Anonymous said...

Anyone thinking it's Bruce Springsteen is a fucking moron. He's headlining Bonnaroo, and I'm sure there's a clause in the contract that prohibits them from headlining Coachella (Bonnaroo's biggest rival). You don't share your biggest most exclusive headliners. You people are truly fucking dumb.

Anonymous said...

kings of leon are out. theyre headlining sasquatch and they have dates in the east coast on the 18th. the white stripes are a possibility and it would be amazing, but theyre so secretive that theres no real way of telling. no hints. blur is a def. possibility and if dre/eminem headlined it would be pretty great, but i dont know i have some doubts. eminem seems to have been stayin on the dl for the past couple of years hasnt he?

Anonymous said...

U2 has a huge deal in place with Live Nation. It doesn't seem likely they'll be in the desert in April with GV.

Anonymous said...

The Livenation deal would not in any way keep U2 from playing Coachella.

Mark D's Second Head said...

(skylerstone)

It will absolutely not be Led Zeppelin or Dr.Dre/Eminem.

I believe the only thing that may be added on Sat is Basement Jaxx. And a band to replace Winehouse (but no one too huge, it is a replacement).

As for Sunday, there is a strong possibility that someone will headline over The Cure. My bets are on either Bruce, U2, Coldplay, or Depeche Mode.

Anonymous said...

NO ONE IS BUMPING THE CURE!!!

Anonymous said...

Not only does Bonnaroo share a lot of bands with Coachella every year, they shared Radiohead and Jack Johnson with Coachella as headliners before. To call people morons for hoping that Bruce Springsteen will be there is uncalled for. All love though.

I think the only reason people are speculating the Cure being bumped is because monklish said the Killers will not be replaced as a headliner. I know a lot of people doubt Monklish, but she did a great job with the initial line up, no one can doubt that.

To contradict myself, I'd like to say that Springsteen would be awesome for Saturday because of the Killers expressed love for him...and because he's The Boss.

Is anyone nervous about a possible Morrissey/Girl Talk or Paul McCartney/Girl Talk conflict?

Mark D said...

I'd like to address my other head by saying please stop saying Winehouse will be replaced...other than that, I like your bets for Coachella. How's work?

Anonymous said...

This has to be the most violent year of speculating ever. I've never witnessed so much prosecution for mere opinions and hopes for rumored bands.

Tsk tsk...

Richard said...

"A clause in the contract that prohibits him from playing Coachella." You're the fucking moron dude. Why would two festivals two months apart be competing? That's not exactly what the experience is about...the only way you could've said anything dumber was if you pulled a fact out of your head rather than your ass. You are A-non.

Mark D's "Ticket" said...

Winehouse should be bumped, or maybe it would work out cause I can skip out on her bee-hive ass and see Thievery Corporation, then run back in time for The Killers. So I guess it would be better if she stayed, so I won't have to miss out on a good band.

Im not at work today, it is Monday.

(Anon 3:10) To answer your Girl Talk conflict question, YES, I am terrified.

Anonymous said...

Just out of curiosity, when do they usually post all the set times? Do you think after a "major announcement" within the next week they will post some times the following week?

To the person still thinking Bruce is gonna play because Coachella and Bonnaroo shared headliners before:

You are a fucking idiot, please just stop. Coachella and Bonnaroo never shared Radiohead as a headliner. Radiohead played Coachella in 2004, and Bonnaroo in 2006. That's over 2 years apart moron, get your fucking history straight. Only when both festivals have the same headliner in the SAME year is it considered sharing. And for Jack Johnson, true he played both festivals last year, but he was not the main headliner of either festival. Bruce Springsteen is a huge name (just like Radiohead, or Paul McCartney, or U2), and if he plays a festival, then he's the main draw/attraction. Competing festivals don't share their main draw/attraction in the same year. So seriously, just shut the fuck up please.

Tell me right now what you will do if Bruce is there? I want to hear it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for nasty mouth Anon 4:32?

Cause if Bruce is there and you just wasted my time and brain cells by reading your post, I want some reprocutions.

Maybe streaking through the crowd during Bruce's performance singing "Born In The USA" at the top of your lungs.

repercussions.

To Anon 7:14

If Bruce Springsteen is there (whether it's Sat night or even Sunday - which is an even more bigger and dumber statement considering the Cure aren't being knocked down) then I'll buy you all your meals throughout the 3 day weekend, you can have all the Churros you want.

And to Richard:

You really have no idea how these things work. So please continue thinking that Coachella and Bonnaroo will share major headliners (which is what draws the unique attendees and money). You're better off just staying off the keyboard though, but hey do what you want, but just know you're wrong.

Royksopp & Fever Ray are being added.

Hypothetical situation...

Guy in Tennessee who had tickets to Bonnaroo but decided not to go because he shares your logic:

"Yeah, despite the fact that Coachella is roughly 2,000 miles away, and was a little over two months ago...I'm not gonna go because even though Bruce Springsteen is phenomenal, Coachella already had him, so it's going to be the same exact crowd as Coachella. Ya know, because Bonnaroo and Coachella are sharing a headliner it's not going to be a unique crowd despite the vast demographic differences. I just think it's impossible"

I don't think any of your synapses are cooperating when you try to type what you've thought...idiot.

Bruce doesn't play "Born In the USA" live. You know what else he doesn't play? Coachella in 2009.

Coachella and Roo are indeed competing festivals. They are destination festivals, and I know of many people that will go to one or the other, depending on the lineup. There are some people that go to both, but there are also alot of people that have to decide between one or the other. Therefore, it'd make sense that the Roo wouldn't let Bruce do Coachella with him being one of the biggest draws. I know that the rule was kinda bent last year with Jack Johnson, but he wasn't one of the bigger, more powerful or rare headliners. He was everywhere last year.

I would think that a Festival like Outside Lands, or even Sasquatch would be much bigger competitors to Coachella. They are both much closer to Coachella then any of the other big festivals. If headliners were to be shared, then that could cause an issue, because probably people from SF would just go to Outside Lands and see the band instead of drive down to Coachella and vice versa.

But to say that Bonaroo will be affected by Coachella is preposterous. They are so far apart from one another that I guarantee almost 100% of Coachella goers are not going to be attending Bonaroo, and Bonaroo goers will not be attending Coachella. If Bruce is at both festivals, then the West Coast people who attend Coachella will be able to see him, and the Southern/East people who attend Bonaroo will be able to see him too. No ticket sales will be affected. They are too completly different festivals, put on by different people, in a completely different geographical location. They already share many of the same bands.

Bruce playing an Arena in LA before Coachella = not gonna be there.

Mark, for the record, I live in Washington, DC, which is not particularly close to either festival. Bonnaroo is closer and more convenient, but the lineup at Coachella is typically more to my liking. I've been to Coachella 4 times and Bonnaroo once in the last 5 years, and I really only have the money to go to one or the either each year. Every year, I am forced to choose between the two festivals, and it's based solely upon the lineups. This year, while an incredibly tough choice, went to Coachella. If Bonnaroo had some of the exclusive Coachella bands though (Leonard Cohen, Morrissey, McCartney, My Bloody Valentine, etc) I probably would've gone there instead. So, you see, the festivals are in direct competition with one another, and I know that I'm not the only one who makes this choice every year (several of my friends do as well). I guarantee that these festivals sign exclusivity contracts with some of their biggest acts to prevent other festivals from getting them.

(Starr) I can't argue with your situation because I don't know you. I am sure that there are people who are in the same situation as you and do come from the east coast to Coachella, (which I don't understand because you have to pay $300 for Coachella tickets plus however much a plane tickets cost, you my as well go to a closer festival and then whatever bands didn't play that you wanted to see you can go see them in concert in DC or a nearby city), anyways, my point was that most people don't do that. The ticket sales for Coachella are absolutely not affected by Bonaroo. It is just a fact. There aren't enough people that have to make that decision between Bonaroo and Coachella to not want to go to one or the other. It is usually decided by geographical location. That is why there are so many festivals all over the US, and bands play more than one. It is so everyone, everywhere, has a chance to go to a festival.

That being said if Bonaroo does have some clause in the contract that says their headliners cannot play Coachella, then they are idiots for wasting time, ink, and paper.

Bwahahaha!

I now know the big add(s?) but I'm not going to spoil the surprise(s?). There definitely will be EXCITEMENT, and it is indeed coming soon.

I would suggest buying your tickets now if you're on the fence... ;)
