Stumbled upon this. Never been a first comment before. Add one more.

The Decemberists

Headliners are a Canadian, a European (maybe two), and an American.

Mark my words now. Thank me later.

Hey Monk have u heard anything about The Knife being there?

Monklish said...

Unless they are wanting to do the same set as their tour a couple years ago, do not expect the Knife.

Anonymous said...

Monk I know u hear this question every year... But anything on Radiohead? Might as well get it out the way now lol

Anonymous said...

@anon4:12 You're a dick. Srsly.

Mike said...

Def gonna be more Dub Step this year. It is slowly becoming popular here in the states. Look for DJs like Joker, Caspa, Rusko, Benga, Skream to be there.

Anonymous said...

Wire? Random. How is godspeed going to work at a big festival?

What's the word on...
Daft punk
Mogwai
Janelle monae
Gary numan
Asobi seksu
Decemberists
Wilco
Interpol
Faithless
Any surprise reunions

I hear cage the elephant is happening, unfortunately.

CHUCHO said...

Yes Monk!!! Thanks for updating!!! It was about time.

Now that we have you on the line, any word on:

Daft Punk
At the Drive-In
Interpol
The Strokes
Big Boi
Jamiroquai
Underworld?

CHUCHO said...

UNKLE?

Hate to say it, but sister who knows stuff in music biz tells me Kings of Leon are locked in. Please tell me she's wrong.

Anonymous said...

"Headliners are a Canadian, a European (maybe two), and an American."

correct, but the American band is not KoL. It's Weezer doing Pinkerton, followed my what will most likely a greatest hits set with some new ones thrown in, too. Heard it from someone from an agency from somewhere.

Anonymous said...

Go ahead and add
Foals
Of Montreal
Marina & the Diamonds
The Kills

heard rumors that sunday headliner is White Stripes. Don't believe it but it'd be pretty fucken cool.

And as usual, your list is very accurate. kudos.

TickleMeElmo said...

Heard anything about A Perfect Circle?

Anonymous said...

I think the Monk's silence speaks volumes. Daft Punk or The White Stripes will be a headliner.

Anonymous said...

If the Beastie Boys headline one of the nights = Letdownchella

Anonymous said...

I think this is another strong undercard year. Interpol, strokes, death cab, decemberists. If beasties "headline" they will be followed on main stage by electronic in my opinion, hopefully daft

Anonymous said...

I hope so. When you think about all of the great Coachella headlines, Beastie Boys would be a giant let down.

Daft better go on after them.

gbyh2o said...

European act(maybe two) = Roger Waters with maybe David Gilmore

Anonymous said...

^I think 1 maybe 2 means waters and maybe radiohead. Bi just saw waters do the wall and it was incredible! He has produced the 2 best shows I have seen and I've seen 100s of bands. I admit pink Floyd is my a time favorite but the people I went with weren't huge fans and they left converted fans.

Glory! said...

HELL yeah! Gogol Bordello!! there aint no party like a GB party cuz a GB party dont stop!! :-)

Monklish said...

Headliners are a band with a drummer, a group that is known to use samples on some songs, and a band with several members.

Mark my words now. Thank me later.

(Imagine an eyerolling emoticon here)

Anonymous said...

monk, what are you your picks for headliners?

ballroomdancer said...

Arcade Fire, Beastie Boys, Radiohead

Daft Punk will surface as headliners in mid-March and bump the Beasties,

that being said
Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Radiohead in that order

subs:Interpol Friday
Beastie Boys Saturday
The Cars Sunday

i can bet money on it...so enjoy all you naysayers.

Goldenvoice is listening to us fans and yes it will pay off with this surprise sure to make all you fanboys splooge your pants

Anonymous said...

From Monk's hints (and piggybacking on Anon 325), the headliners would seem to be The White Stripes, Daft Punk, and Arcade Fire. Monk wouldn't mention an American drummer if it weren't for Meg White returning to the scene. The European and Canadian hints are a dead give away.

Monklish said...

That was not a hint. I was poking fun at the second comment.

Anonymous said...

^Thank you captain obvious. Although the "emotioncon" with eyes rolling tells me that Monk was being sarcastic, but some people just aren't smart enough to get most jokes.

Anonymous said...

So , a band with a drummer ???
so many possibilities there , haha

White Stripes or Foo Fighters

Anonymous said...

Daft are playing this year. Have known about this since last year. They were swamped with Tron duties. This year they are playing. However, it may only be a DJ set.

I'm Back said...

Aww, don't be so cold monk. We're just playing with you.

;)

Anonymous said...

INCUBUS

Anonymous said...

Daft would never do a dj set at a venue like coachella

Anonymous said...

The Beastie Boys will be the worst headliner in the history of Coachella.

Steve B said...

Surely KYUSS LIVES will be there following the Euro tour announcement which currently ends April 6th.......

Anonymous said...

Really? The Beastie Boys are a worse headliner than Jack Johnson? C'mon!!

Anonymous said...

I can just imagine the stampede of people leaving the polo fields when the Beasties take the stage.

Seriously, this isn't 2001. Get someone that people really want to see

Anonymous said...

Monklish- Is Daft Punk or the White Stripes playing?

Person who wants to know bands said...

Monk,

I just want to know if any of these bands or dance act/dj seem likely for next year.

Leftfield
Two Door Cinema Club
Danger
Louis La Roche
No Age

Anonymous said...

Please assure us the Chili Peppers won't stink up the place next year.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry...the Beastie Boys are there to stink up the place.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone really care to see the beastie boys go into political rants and not play the hits yet again?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone else feel ripped off by the Beastie Boys being a headliner?

"Brass Monkey! That Funky Monkey"

Count me out.

Mike said...

First off, chill out on the Beastie Boys. They would make an excellent sing-along energetic Sunday headliner to close off the festival. Kind of what they wanted from Gorillaz this year (but it didn't turn out exactly like that).

I don't care if 10 of you on this blog don't want to see them. With 7 albums from 1986-2007, and another one expected next year, 10 Grammy nominations, and a HUGE fan base ranging from people now in their 40s to teens, you really think they are "the worst headliner in the history of Coachella" or " a stampede of people leaving the polo fields when the Beasties take the stage".

Come on people, they would absolutely be a headliner for Coachella. And a good one.

Anonymous said...

^^^^BUMP

Also, did no one else get I'M BACK's hidden message?

Anonymous said...

The problem with the Beastie Boys is that it's not a "wow" type group that Coachella is known for. Neither is Coldplay.

Coachella needs to bring in a headliner that you don't see everyday like Daft Punk or The White Stripes.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure the Beasties won't headline. Because if they do, GV is out of their fucking minds.

It's 2010, nobody cares about them. It would be worse than Jay-Z.

Anonymous said...

^ wow

People really are out of their mind on this blog.

Unknown said...

Why am i so excited for SHM? I saw them at EDC, and their music is overplayed to the max..
I dunno, just the thought of them in the Coachella atmosphere does it for me, just so much happiness and dancing in one hot sweaty place.

Im not saying Coachella isn't going to bring in some amazing unique headliners (Daft, White Stripes). They could very well be there also. But Beastie Boys would make a great 3rd tier headliner. And could easily be billed with a Top DJ to follow. Or a phenomenal spectacle "wow" Dj to headline Sahara at the same time.

I'm Back said...

Add Kid Cudi.

Anonymous said...

I don't have a problem with the Beasties being a subheadliner. But if they go on last...talk about a massive let down.

Anonymous said...

If you are excited for Swedish House Mafia, you are probably a fist-pumping guido. Hope you don't get any grass stains on your new Ed Hardy shirt!

Anonymous said...

I will give up my first born if its true that The Bronx are playing. They fucking destroy live

Anonymous said...

What are the chances of
Suede??????

Anonymous said...

Some names to expect that haven't been really dropped here yet:

Justice
Pendulum
Kanye West
Bryan Ferry/Roxy
Four Tet
Magnetic Man
Tortoise
Twin Shadow
Chromeo
Warpaint
Wavves
The National
Avi Buffalo

Anonymous said...

^ So the headliners are AF, BB and Kanye West? Unlikely.

Anonymous said...

don't shoot me but go ahead and add ...............

Coheed & Cambria

Anonymous said...

^ C&C? Yuck

Anonymous said...

"don't shoot me but go ahead and add ...............Coheed & Cambria"

No need to shoot you. They played last year, and won't be there two years in a row. Not happening.

Anonymous said...

For everyone bitching about the Beastie Boys....I have a number for you, 2003. For everyone wishing about Radiohead...please do us a favor and shut the hell up. Thom Yorke JUST played last year, does that not satisfy ANY of you? At the Drive-In would be amazing, but is totally unrealistic...Omar said a year or so ago he has no intentions of ever getting them back together. Mars Volta is more likely that ATDI.

I'd say Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Beastie Boys, Interpol, possibly Death Cab, and some headliner that will be ridiculous and awesome. Remember, Coachella is about the current generation's biggest names, and rare performances.

Anonymous said...

Also, Empire of the Sun will make you shit your pants....no lie.

And the Bronx would be straight up amazing as long as they play "They Will Kill Us All (Without Mercy)" as a closer. I haven't been in a REAL pit in awhile now, but I'd certainly throw some bows for that one.

Anonymous said...

It's not gonna be The Bronx, it's gonna be Mariachi El Bronx.

Anonymous said...

Robyn is going to be there

Anonymous said...

with high voltage, any word on the national?

Anonymous said...

@Anon 9:49

3 of those listed matched Monklish's next post and another of those listed is a lock based on info I have

makes me wonder how many others on 9:49's list are accurate?
