Not to mention that two out of three SHM members played last year, and Skrillex was there last year too.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:47 is actually correct. Except it's the Glitch Mob and not Modeselektor (although they will be there). Everything else is absolutely correct.

Deadmau5
Justice
Bassnectar
The Glitch Mob
And yes, Skrillex and Afrojack

Take it to the bank.

way to go out on a limb and say that kaskade, bon iver and justice will be there

Partly agree with what you are saying.

Florence and the Machine has a new album coming out though and doubtful she plays Southern California after the new album.

My Morning Jacket never played San Diego after the release of Circuital and 20% of the crowd at Coachella is from San Diego.

SAN DIEGO!

@8:34. Well if feels like the feeling you get when your at Coachella!!!

Anonymous said...

You know what WOULD make sense?

An NWA reunion. That would be a great addition to the poster at about the same area we saw Public Enemy.

It makes sense for all parties. MC Ren and Yella ain't doin SHIT right now. Hell, Yella is directing PORN, haaaa! U don't even need him, but they can get the Arabian Prince also...

Sure Eazy E is dead, but with how Wu Tang still tours minus O.D.B., they can either have his parts play over the sound system w/ his face on a huge screen or they can have someone that they are boys with (Snoop, Eminem, etc.) fill in live onstage.

Cube is producing freaking TBS show now, I mean, COME ON! U know he is down (and he is GREAT live).

It's funny, everyone always throws around Dr Dre and then it starts a polarizing situation where people are like "hell yeah, love him" or "no way, dude is not a headliner and he is not great live".

First of all, everyone needs to chill on that. Sure, we do not know when Detox is coming out for sure, but it will be here before Coachella for sure. It will be. So he is going to relevant as we all surround this album to see if it is any good!

Dre could play some new songs, Dre and Cube could do Natural Born Killaz onstage and Cube could roll out a few solid hits and they could do all the NWA songs people know all the words too!!

thoughts??

Transcript is here:
http://coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49619

The article was published July 17th. Headliners were booked before publication. So anybody on here claiming to have inside scoop who says the headliners are still being decided, moved around, etc (i.e. EVERYBODY), they are lying like usual.

Anonymous said...

I think with news of A Beach Boys Reunion they could be a serious consideration for Coachella. Close out the Outdoor stage or a perfect sunset set on main stage (not a sub headliner). Any thoughts? I think that would help sell some tickets to a different demographic plus, hell I would enjoy hearin a few BB surfin songs.

Anonymous said...

^thats what I'm talking about^

Anonymous said...

it would only be cool to have the Beach Boys if it was them playing Pet Sounds in its entirety, otherwise take that shit to a county fuckin fair

Anonymous said...

umm... isnt it obvious.. i mean really lets just look at this for a second..
first time EVER an event in this fashion has ever even been attempted (double weekend)
now they need a massive headliner to fuel such an event
and the only one i can see that would bring people in from all over the world is daft punk

now i dont want to get into rumors so ill only state what has been varified
they say on their own site to expect a concert in 2011/2012
coachella kicked off their last tour
they surprised us in new york with phoenix
and ever since their release of tron they have been absolutely silent which is more of a sign than any

watch their name be on the poster

Anonymous said...

@12:49 that's been my theory ever since two weekends was announced. Clearly "the big 4" was a test run for two weekends, so they have had the big headliner(s) in the bag since well before Coachella 11. Word through the grapevine is that Daft Punk was asked for 11 and they said "we are not ready yet." maybe the second half of that conversation was "but we will be next year." GV watches it sell out in six days for Kings of Leon and go "oh shit we need to up capacity for [huge headliner]." Also Monk had DP on her list until the last minute, perhaps the source was confusing being booked for 2012 for 2011.

Where I'm less convinced is that this style thought out theory with lots of proof was done for DP last year. And the year before that. Not to mention Radiohead is just as big and they are the band that has the most rumors this year and "leaks". they could have easily been the band that prompted two weeks instead of Daft. So I'm not allowing myself to get my hopes up...ifthey are there I will literally pee a little, but I'm not going to count on it despite the evidence.

I know this is going to disappear and going to be counted with all the “fake” posts, but this is the state of the lineup. No Daft. Headliners are only three, and they are what everybody has been guessing: Radiohead, Coldplay, No Doubt. Despite what everybody here thinks, Paul T is very excited about No Doubt and is banking on their new album being huge. No single headliner was the reason for the two day switch, the festival getting bigger as a whole was. All three have been booked forever.

Sahara is essentially not even booked at all, it’s a bit of a mess. There was a big internal dispute over the direction the Sahara will head in next year…some wanted to keep booking EDC/Hard acts, some wanted to go more experimental. So that part of the lineup more or less up in the air, although Kaskade, Simian Mobile Disco, Justice have all been locked down, as have several smaller acts. Apparat and Modeselektor are also booked, may end up in Mojave. Justice has not been placed, they will either close a stage or be the Sahara headliner, it is essentially banking on how well their live show is received when it debuts. David Guetta was in talks, but his ego was ridiculous and he was demanding money and billing that GV was not prepared to give him, and so they decided they didn’t want him that bad and have frozen him out.

Bon Iver has literally been booked since last Coachella ended, Justin was so electrified about the energy of the festival after his Gayngs/Kanye performances that he committed a week later. No OutKast, but we will get a solo Big Boi performance. Pulp is in, Fleet Foxes, Neutral Milk Hotel, Florence, Incubus (I know…), Nicki Minaj (I KNOW…), Queens of the Stone Age, Tom Waits, My Morning Jacket is getting a subheadlining position and an extra long set, although to get that they had to compromise and it will likely half overlap with the headliner of the day and will probably be on the Outdoor. There are several big names being wooed for the rest of the subheadlining positions, most are close to signing but I’m really only being told who has signed on. Most of the undercard is booked, but I am not privy to all of it…The Weeknd is booked but they are terrified of a flake performance, Yeasayer will be back, Lana del Rey got a spot within the last few weeks based on the hype she’s been getting, Pusha T, Boris, St. Vincent, The Black Lips. These names were all told to me anecdotally in various ways, but I know that essentially all of the undercard is a done deal (they are keeping a few slots open in case anybody blows up over the next few months, Lana got in that way).

Pure Filth/Oasis Dome will be back, but all that I’ve heard is that Kreayshawn (the chick who does the Gucci Gucci song) is booked, probably for a Lil’ B type spot.

Who will not be there? Feist, despite her new album, is not doing it. The Throne was actually offered first subheadliner of the poster (more on the poster format in a second) just because they couldn’t give Jay-Z and Kanye headliner again so soon, it was summarily turned down, although they weren’t nearly as bitchy about it as you might think. The Knife was in talks for a second, but they are just not ready.

The only two repeats will be as follows. Foster the People is getting another shot and will probably be a Mojave/Outdoor act. SBTRKT is coming back, but he will be live, probably Gobi but maybe Mojave if he keeps getting traction.

Details of the weekend are that the headliners will be locked in to a night…Coldplay opens on Friday, No Doubt is on Saturday (if Justice closes the main, this is the night), Radiohead Sunday. However, the rest of the set times will not be the same. They literally (so far) have succeeded in replicating the lineup exactly, but not every act will play the same day due to touring schedules. So the poster will read the top three names on top with the dates they play in smaller font directly below them, and then everything else will be billed under them. Days for the rest of the acts will not be released until set times would be.

There isno way that with how badass Deadmau5's latest setup is that he won't be there......he was there in 10.....he is due back....fucker did four nights at Palladium

Anonymous said...

^I've said it before and I'll say it again, Deadmau5 is locked in to close the mainstage saturday night, not Justice. They'll be there but in the Sahara.

Anonymous said...

Deadmau5 will not be there again so soon. He'll be back in 13 or 14 with a new live set up...read about it somewhere. Also, while it's a well constructed story, you people are fools if you believe 8:10.

Anonymous said...

@9:00 - I know of no other acts, the only reason I know any of the undercard is because of specific stories. Pusha T was something about how they debated inviting him because Clipse had been a no show in the past, there was something weird about St. Vincent's rider, The Weeknd they are worried because they canceled some shows, etc.

shut the fuck up with you're regurgitated bullshit. Anyone can compile "likely" artists, throw in some fabricated scenarios leading up to the booking and make it sound legit. To your benefit you crafted a believable scenario but ultimately you don't know shit. Perhaps you should join a creative writing class.

Anonymous said...

@1103 Yes but he played two years ago. Big acts are rarely recycled that early. I don't think you'll see Deadmau5 at Coachella this year. The only way he does it is if GV wants to have a DJ on the mainstage and figures nobody else is big enough right now.

Anonymous said...

^Contd...Other than those who have already done it or don't want to, of course. Mainstage style acts usually wait 4 years to come back around.

Anonymous said...

Honestly, for those people who incessantly post about how other people's "predictions" are absurd and nothing can be believed, why even visit this blog? It is ALL speculation until the poster is officially released. Even if someone claims to have "insider information," there will never be proof to substantiate the claim. The reason the rest of us visit this blog is to help get us excited and throw around names. It's all fun and games. What else are we posting about if not lineup speculation?

@3:50 PM

the reason people bash the anonymous posters on this site is because they have no credibility and no real sources. it takes 10 minutes to create a post that makes you seem legit, with nothing more than a general idea of who even has a chance of playing coachella. however well intentioned those people are, they are just propagating bullshit.

the reason everyone comes here here is not to hear the aforementioned idiots spread lies and fantasies. it's because, hate her or love, Monk has proven over the last few years that her sources are legit and you can at least partially trust her posts.

the comments section should be people sharing links to real rumors and discussion of who should be there, what stage people should be on, etc. if people want to say who they like or hope for- fine. but when you post something claiming to be "in the know" anonymously, expect to get flamed because its obvious your full of shit

So it seems:
Coldplay
Madonna? No doubt??
Radiohead

Anonymous said...

The chance they bring Madonna back after her Sahara tent debacle is minimal at best, and definitely not this year.

Anonymous said...

@Chris:
The post is full of bullshit, but it is true that Paul T apparently books the undercard first. Whether it would be done by now is whatever, but he does do it first.

Anonymous said...

I'd like to hear some evidence behind such a claim.

Anonymous said...

Monnk?

Anonymous said...

Okay first off, Madonna gave one of the most loathed performances in all of Coachella history. She begged Paul T to let her play for years and he finally said yes and it was an absolute sham. There is no way she's ever playing Coachella again, let alone headlining. So you are an idiot for saying that.

Second, it is not unrealistic the undercard is already booked. If you had bothred to read the Desert Sun article you'd see that Paul T says he expects to have the entire lineup done by the end of September, because since it's 2 weekends he needs to give bands an extra heads up. That's not to say people cannot be added between now and January, but they basically have an idea of what their lineup is going to look like.

People need to get a clue.

Anonymous said...

^ isn't it also true that you have no idea what you're talking about?

Anonymous said...

Paul T already has the headliners and will be done with the undercards very soon.

Didnt read that link but I assume its the Sun article where he says hes finishing early bit still not releasing the lineup until the normal time(jan) even though it will be done much earlier than normal.

And where are you getting this Madonna bullshit. She headlined the Sahara in 06 not the festival, and had a terrible set. Now as she drifts towards irrelevancy and old age shes gonna come back in a year where headliners are more important than normal because of the new setup and be on the mainstage? Fucking laughable. Give me your number, id love to buy whatever drugs youre on for coachella. Madonna doesn't fit the profile of a coachella headliner and she wouldnt even subheadline if she was there. She wont come any where close to indio this april unless she buys a ticket.

this is from the article:

He wouldn’t tell me if his headliners have played Coachella before, but he did say the lineup will include bands he’s nurtured at past festivals.

HMMMM....if that is 100% true, then who are everyone's guesses going by that rationale? I want honest ones! and can we please keep this place positive, the vibe of this blog used to just like Coachella - AWESOME, but we have somehow strayed from that? Why?

What are some bands that have been "nurtured" at past Coachellas that could honestly headline now?

-Phoenix? (i only think this is possible if a new album is coming out before then? But even of, are they really big enough to headline?? My guess is prob not...

-My Morning Jacket? (maybe all the rumors are true about them? they DID subheadline in 2008...)

-Watch The Throne (i know they both JUST did it (Kanye and Jaz-Z), but that would fit that description and they are starting a tour in Nov...

-Deadmau5 would make sense for sure....and he has a new Daft Punk Alive-esque fancy setup that sold out Palladium 4 times here in LA in August, he could be a mainstage closer for sure

-Daft Punk could be it too, as they were NOT headliners last and in a way he nutured them by helping them get re-introduced to everyone with that legendary set....NO one thought they were THAT freaking awesome til that set happened...i mean COME ON! it was GOLD!

-Massive Attack (could they pull it off??)

-New Order

-Amy Winehouse ( I mean she was supposed to sub in 2009, but did not...she would KILL in the desert....buh dum ching!....sorry, could not resist
