So Radiohead it is? Hopefully this isn't just getting our hopes up. Radiohead and Pulp is awesome already.

@Anon350 - True, and remember last year HitsDailyDouble and Monklish both reported the Rolling Stones were confirmed, so take this with a grain of salt until the real lineup comes out.

@355. Plastikman 1.5

Sorry for saying Richie

This is now starting to look interesting. Makes it a lot easier to give up on the notion Daft will be anywhere near Indio in April.

Coachella is not EDC and will therefore not be featuring Swedish House Mafia as a headliner. Their name will be on the second line of their day and will close out the main stage after the real headliner a la Tiesto in 2010.

MMJ and SHM wouldn't headline.

Monk, check out The Naked and Famous schedule...

Milwaukee 4/13, Madison 4/14, Chicago 4/15 is the rumor.

Bjork is probably not playing. I don't see them bringing back a 3rd time headliner this year.

The Prodigy is headlining Download Festival day 3 in July so they will be doing at least some dates before their new album comes out next year. I really hope they close the mainstage or headline the Sahara one day.

It's really Suprefan. And Radiohead really isn't playing.

Anonymous said...

In most cases I agree that one band being there or being absent can make the lineup a fail, but inthis case, if Radiohead isn't there, the lineup fails. They stretched thed festival to 2 weekends and if the lineup isn't epic then this is a disgusting money grab.

Anonymous said...

Sandusky will be there.. I read in an interview he is excite to wear an Indian headdress and shower in the mobile trailers with all the hipsters.

Waller Jay said...

I drank a cup of cum for breakfast this morning.

Anonymous said...

As Coachella dies an ever evolving slow death, we look for another festival to take its place. This line-up gets worse every time it is updated. The only thing saving the two-week money suck is the hope that Monklish is wrong, and some bands worth going out to see end up on the bill like...The Stone Roses, Mazzy Star, Arctic Monkeys, The Kills (again),New Order, .

Anonymous said...

Arctic Monkeys always sucked and nobody but drunk Brits care about them anymore. And fuck all the garage rock duos that keep releasing the same album.

Anonymous said...

@4:33
I 100% agree with the sentiment except Radiohead can be substituted with about 4/5 groups that fit that mold. In the past they have gone out of their way to bring the best lineup possible. This year they are taking a huge financial risk and have a chance to solidify themselves as THE preeminent festival in North America-there's no way they trot out the same tired shit like Coldplay, No Doubt and RHCP/Foo Fighters without at least one epic headliner (or the most unreal under card ever). I think that we will get at least 1 (hopefully two)of Radiohead, Bjork, Daft Punk, Roger Waters or the Stones. If one of those names isn't a headliner then GV has fucked up royally.

The whole two weekends thing is a risk and an experiment that needs something more than the normal Coachella to make it succeed. I understand that Weekend 1 will sell out regardless because Coachella is a destination now, but without something to draw more people than normal, no way 150,000 tickets are being sold for a weak lineup. No matter how popular last year was, 150,000 tickets won't just sell because Coachella is an "it" thing to do, no matter what people say. All the diehards who buy tickets regardless and all the kids who go for "the scene" will sell out about a weekend and a half. Even if Weekend 2 sells a majority of thier tickets, if they come up 20,000 people short then GV is gonna take a loss.

So whether the lineup manifests itself as awesome headliners or a more stacked under card remains to be seen, but GV has always been smart and goes out of their way to get the best and most sought after acts. Why would they laze/cheap out in a year where they have a lot to lose and getting a great lineup benefits them both financially and reputation wise.

And while its very unlikely they get two headliners like Radiohead and DP (or some similar dream lineup)you can't say it's out of the realm of possibility either. While they aren't cheap, it's not like anyone but the Stones/Waters would destroy their budget. The bands we revere as the "dream bands" potential to be there is usually based on availability and preparedness for touring, not money. Is this a pipe dream- yes, but GV is a business. They either go the extra mile and spend some extra money to get the best lineup possible thus investing in making the 2 weekend setup a success not only this year but for the future as well. Or save a couple bucks, get the same old Lolla/Bonnaroo crap and risk the entire 2 weekend setup failing. Here's to GV not making a money grab.

Anonymous said...

@4:33, Radiohead will be all over the country next year. The make or break act would be Pulp.

Anonymous said...

Here's why I think Radiohead will be headlining:

They announced their US tour dates from the East Coast all the way to the West Coast, but conspicuously stopped at Arizona. Clearly, they will play dates in CA, but non-disclosure agreements would prevent them from either explicitly or implicitly revealing themselves as one of the bands at Coachella 2012. Even if they released CA tour dates with the exclusion of the Coachella dates, it would be easy for people to connect the dots especially given that Coachella will now span 2 weekends and these two glaring gaps in their tour schedule would be tantamount to announcing their attendance.

My guess is that they have made a deal with Goldenvoice to hold off on announcing CA dates for another month. This way, Coachella gets to milk the buzz up until just a couple of weeks before they officially drop the lineup in early January.

Anonymous said...

"If radiohead isn't there, it's a fail."

"Monklish is god"

Anonymous said...

First of all, Arctic Monkeys are an extremely tight band and kill live. They still have a strong following in the states, not sure where all of that is coming from because it's completely off point.

Second, there isn't a festival in America that can match the setting the polo fields brings us. That alone is enough for me to keep making my way out from Texas. Why do I need to find another festival? I've tried them all and NONE of them do it as good. Not to mention there sound is unrivaled. If you call last years festival a slow dying death then you must have not stepped a foot past the mainstage. They had plenty going on then just like they do every year and of course will also follow suit in 2012.

And I really hope the second weekend isn't as packed. Maybe that audience will also be a little more genuine. I'm very satisfied with picking weekend 2. GV will easily succeed.

Anonymous said...

Jerry Sandusky would spend the weekend in the Sahara.

Anonymous said...

OK, just checked Radiohead's tour dates page and it's pretty much a sure thing that they're playing Coachella. They just announced additional dates in Europe starting in June 2012. So, they have US dates posted all the way through March 2012, East Coast to West Coast, but stopping at Arizona. ZERO CA dates posted and ZERO dates posted in the months of April and May. Then they head to Europe in June. Unless they're going on a 2 month hiatus and skipping CA altogether, this is another strong tell that they're tip-toeing around the Coachella dates.

Anonymous said...

Anon @9:18
If her US tour is in May, that actually makes it more likely that she will headline Coachella. Not saying that she is, or even that it is logical that she will, but it would make perfect sense to headline a festival in the latter part of April and then go onto to tour the rest of the US throughout May.

MONK PLEASE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS BJORK SITUATION

How can people be surprised by those who you have listened to Bjork and dont like her. That's completely idiotic. Her style is extremely wierd and eclectic. She's very innovative and influential which is why some like her but its very easy to say that a majority of people who listen to her stuff would not enjoy it.

@9:31 AM
you are the dumbest person in the world. there is not a person on earth who would complain about DP bringing out the pyramid. They could literally have the pyramid and just put on a cd of Alive 2007 and everyone would talk about how it was the best set of the weekend.

Here's to hoping Bjork and the Foo Fighters are not on the list

Anonymous said...

LOL, that's true. Daft Punk could do the exact same set as Alive 2007 and nobody would complain.

Anonymous said...

most people want to see daft punk to brag how they saw them live

Anonymous said...

Everybody would complain you morons.
When Daft Punk tours again, they better have something that bests the Pyramid. Otherwise, people are going to be VERY disappointed.

Anonymous said...

^you are fucking crazy man. Daft live is so fucking rare that people would take them in any form they can get.
You think there really is a fan who would have a problem reliving Alive? Hardcore fans would HOPE for something new just because they know DP always push the boundaries of the electronic live show. But if settling for Alive pt 2 was the price to pay to get Daft back for a live performance there wouldnt be a single complaint around. And if you really knew coachella you would know that their 06 set is generally considered one of the best in the entire history of coachella. Not sure people would be very disappointed to relive that, i know i wouldnt.

Thats just among the very hardcore fans who know enough about DP to know about Alive and the pyramid. Of todays coachella demographic most people probably know Around the World, One More Time and Stronger. Dont think they would complain as they had their minds blown by the pyramid.

You'd really have to be a total cynical, hipster douchebag to complain about DP performing with the same setup. Especially with the other headliner names being thrown around here like RHCP and Coldplay an the Foo fighters playing their own tired bullshit, u think people would complain about the rarest and most influential edm act playing a copy of their mindblowing show?Come on. But this whole point is moot because DP isnt going to use the pyramid again and if they do it will be totally revamped. those guys define themselves by pushing the boundaries in everything they do.

DAFT PUNK FOR 2012!!!!!!IN ANY FORM

Anonymous said...

They're not going to have the pyramid again. I hope not anyway. Need something new. 2006 will never be topped.

To anybody wondering why Bjork and Foo Fighters seem likely to be the other two headliners along with Radiohead. Just take a look at the Lollapalooza Chile lineup. Last year the headliners were Kanye, The Killers and Jane's Addiction. Kanye obviously headlined Coachella that year and both lead singers from Jane's and The Killers also played Coachella along with quite a few other acts.

Anonymous said...

the naked and famous are only playing the second weekend. they'll be performing at an ace hotel party in between the two weekends if you really need to see them twice. if you are only going to the first weekend, you won't be missing much.

don't expect two cloned lineups. things will turn out to be 75% the same, but it wasn't financially viable for all of the bands to schedule swingback tours through the palm desert. aeg is already regretting the dual weekend decision with how poorly the second weekend sales have been.

Simply stating that they are playing MC on the 17th is not conclusive in any way with regard to the speculation.
