^ If that really is the lineup, I pray to god that they wouldn't let Coldplay close the festival.

Anonymous said...

Bjork> Foo Fighters on the main stage would be a weird night

Anonymous said...

Any chance for The Stone Roses Monk?

Anonymous said...

I'd imagine it'd be more like Foo Fighters > Bjork. If not, maybe Bjork - outdoor?

Anonymous said...

Bjork would headline over Foo Fighters, especially with her production...and there's no fucking way she'd be on the outdoor. What the hell is wrong with you people?

Anonymous said...

yeah monkey leash. stone roses? whats up with that, huh?

Anonymous said...

yeah please get back to us on the stone roses monk!

Anonymous said...

Elastica?

Anonymous said...

Foo Fighters have always been a better act overall than Bjork...

Anonymous said...

Stone Roses are Gobi Tent material. If that.

Bjork is background music for depressed teen girl suicide. Nothing more.

roger waters is clearly performing the wall at coachella. just look at his tour schedule. Almost all of April is open, and he plays mexico city on apr 27. Starting from late january he is touring all over the world playing every few days, yet when april rolls around, his schedule suddenly stop. I wonder why?

Anonymous said...

Why? Because Roger is an old man and needs a break every now and again.

Anonymous said...

^ Roger is playing coachella again. better believe

Anonymous said...

If you add two Coachella dates to Roger's schedule it only makes 5 total shows in April. I think he can manage.

Anonymous said...

WHY does anyone want Roger again? Been there, done that and everyone who wanted to see the Wall has seen it. He's been touring it for 14 months with another year to go. I'm a betting type and I'd bet Roger is not going to be at Coachella.

My longshot pick is Pear Jam.

Pearl Jam
Radiohead
The third is a mystery but not Coldplay, FF or Bjork.

Anonymous said...

^ No one has seen the wall live at coachella. No one

Anonymous said...

No one has seen The Wall at a festival...yet....

Anonymous said...

Exactly....everyone, who wanted to, could have seen it in an arena.

Read the post and don't be dense for Christ's sake.

Anonymous said...

Waters played a lot of what you would want to hear off of the Wall back in 2008 at Coachella.

Doesn't make a difference anyway...it's all a semi-quasi fake without David anyway and particularly when it comes to the Wall.

Anonymous said...

Nope, it's still pretty fucking real. Your mom is quasi fake.

Anonymous said...

^^ Waters had planes fly over and drop confetti for gods sake. The Wall outside at Coachella would be 10x better than at any arena. The surround sound he had when he played Dark side almost made me shit myself.

I honestly don't understand anyone who wants pearl jam. there latest music is as boring as ever and they haven't covered any new ground in a decade. People bitch about KOL and The Killers who I agree suck, but at least they are experimenting with new sounds and ideas.

Anonymous said...

getting pearl jam to play has nothing to do with how good or bad their latest music. they would play because they have a significant impact on music. and kol and the killers experimenting with new sounds and ideas? the killers and kings of leon have actually done the exact opposite. they have not created anything new or exciting. bands and musicians need to reinvent and redefine the music we know in order to truly impact culture, such as pearl jam, and not get chewed up and spat out by superficial mainstream trends, like the killers and kol both have. I dont even like pearl jam but they are a much more credible band for coachella than kol and the killers would ever be.

Anonymous said...

How did KOL change from their last album?

foster the people are playing for the 2nd year in a row? that seems uncharacteristic considering no one plays two years consecutively besides perry farrell.

about Kings of Leon until
they headlined.

Same thing with Jack Johnson.

No one complained the other 2 times
he played coachella when he wasnt
headlining and then let them god forbid get popular and headline and then they are the shittiest thing ever.

Same exact thing when the Killers headlined - lots of "worst headliner ever" comments yet everyone was totally happy when they played earlier and did not headline.

Why won't they share a line? You think that is impossible? Kanye is at least as big as them.

Anonymous said...

533

Because many people are stupid and Kanye had to share a line with the fucking strokes because of the backlash GV would've received by making kanye west "sole headliner".

Muse, kol, the killers, AF, all headlined on there own. Coldplay is bigger than all of those bands. Sharing a line wouldn't happen.

Anonymous said...

I don't think "sharing a line" is that big a deal. I don't think Coldplay would say "We will play Coachella but not if we have to share a line, we are too good for that".

Jay Z had a line on his own, people didn't freak out. The Strokes and Kanye are both bigger than Gorillaz, who had their own line. I really think you make to big a deal of this "sharing a line" business.

Also, Bjork had headlined twice and many people are speculating she'd share a line now.

Anonymous said...

Also Arcade Fire and Muse are bigger acts at Coachella than Coldplay. Maybe not worldwide but at Coachella yes.

Anonymous said...

Sorry for the triple post, but do you really think there'd be a backlash if Kanye had his own line? Really?

Coldplay can share a line, they seem like pretty humble dudes.

Now that the Foo Fighters are headlining bamboozle 2012, we can all agree that their not headlining Coachella. GV wouldn't get that kind of act to headline one of Coachella's days. Nope

Anonymous said...

I wasnt much of fan of the Foo fighters until I saw them this year at Lollapalooza and they definitely changed my mind. Incredible live band who exceeded all my expectations. They are still a possibility for coachella and im sure they will impress many people who have never seen them perform.

Anonymous said...

^^THANK YOU, saw foo fighters at the Forum a while back and theyre definitely one of the best live hard rocking bands out there right now (along with the white stripes (RIP) and the black keys) dave grohl deserves all of the recognition that he and his band has gotten and dare i say...has exceeded anything that nirvana ever did...its a good thing that curt (RIP) had passed when he did because now they will stand the test of time, if they were still around today they wouldve become irrelevant years ago...

Anonymous said...

Radiohead is going to be amazing

Anonymous said...

^ It will be a special moment when take the stage in front of the coachella crowd. Im already thinking about what the setlist could look like. The king of limbs seems to get better each time I listen to it. I guess that's the Radiohead effect. Is a 3 hr set a possibility like the cure in 09?

Anonymous said...

Hey Monk, how about an update on Christmas?

thanks in advance

Anonymous said...

i hope Radiohead's set list is different and not the same one from their upcoming tour

Anonymous said...

The Foos are mediocre live, not worth a headliner spot at coachella, especially since they have whored themselves out ob the festival circuit this past year.

And the Black Keys are not going to sub, play outside lands and then Headline coachella in a calender year. PT booked the headliners months ago and there was no way he was booking Black Keys at that time. Unless it is to sub again because they had sound issues last year.

Also Foster the people-yes, sleigh bells-no, sbtrkt- yes,

Anonymous said...

did anyone hear about Busy P leaking some quote about Daft recording their new album? He deleted it immediatly and apparently also mentioned something about daft at his show in Prague the other day. 1% chance they play coachella but with those paul williams interviews and now this pretty safe to say a new cd is due up soon.

OFFICIAL HEADLINERS

Roger Waters

Tool

Radiohead

if you have any doubts check thier tour dates.

Anonymous said...

Tool has an album dropping sometime in 2012, not done yet though. I wouldn't expect new material to debut live since the last couple of years have had numerous gigs with very little setlist changes and nothing new.

coachella friend said...

^ plus thats what Paul T said about not just hitting one genre or age group. Roger Waters will be for the people that enjoy old stuff, tool will be for people that enjoy heavy stuff and radiohead will be for people that like indie stuff. but all three have a heavy artistic influence that comes out in their live shows. Also with the diversity of them and all of thier fans being die hards it will surely sell out both weekends. check and mate

Monklish said...

@anon333 Breaking news, some people think I make stuff up. Welcome to every year. It is factually true that I have brought the best mixture of quantity and quality of Coachella lineup acts for the last several years. People can say or believe whatever they want to but the info to back up my claims is out there for anyone with a calculator. Sorry to hurt your feelings that I have not been 'guessing' or giving my opinion about the headliners. Take the six most probable names and choose two of them. I have not found out more info at this time but I can say that it will not be Roger Waters or No Doubt. I also highly doubt that Tool will be there, but that is just an opinion or 'guess'.

Anonymous said...

coachella friend thinks Radiohead is indie. LOL

coachella friend said...

sounds like you are challenging me Monk. I guess we will see who is right in a few weeks. except you have not named your other 2 headliners and I have.

coachella friend said...

@412 guess you were not there in 08'. anyone that has played coachella in the past is a possiblilty in the future.

Anonymous said...

Monklish listed Daft Punk last year which proves this blog is a fraud. Im sure monk will respond by saying insider info said they were playing until the last minute and then backed out, which is clearly BS. There is no insider info. Just guesses based on tour schedules and gossip

coachella friend said...

331 352 412 414 are the same idiot.

Anonymous said...

itunes categorizes Radiohead as Alternative.

I categorize coachella friend as a douche.

Anonymous said...

While I agree Roger/Radiohead/Tool would be the best headliners ever, I have to say that I agree with Monk Roger and Tool probably won't happen.

But no No Doubt? Trust me, that makes me very happy, but it just seems inevitable at this point.

I understand Roger isn't realistic but Radiohead/Tool/Headliner I couldn't care less about seems amazing to me.

coachella friend said...

@433 yes itunes does also categorize Radiohead as alternative but their current album KOL that I uploaded from the actual KOL CD to my itunes account categorizes them as Indie Rock. Since that is thier most current album to date, I am correct in calling them Indie. I categorize you as the Village Idiot, the same person I was speaking of in my previous comment. once again... check and mate

Radiohead: "Alternative Rock, Experimental Rock, Electronic Music"

6 of their 8 albums were released on EMI, nothing independent about that.

Plus the term "indie" is mainstream and corney these days. Please don't add those guys to such a confused subgenre.

Anyone whose seen The Wall live knows that it couldn't happen at Coachella. It's a massive production.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Monk any more people you can disclude. So fucking glad to hear No Doubt will probably not be there.

Anonymous said...

814 and 817 obviously didn't see The Wall live.

The STAGE itself is fucking huge and there's no way it could be pulled off in that tiny little window, from sub to headliner.

Look at his stage production for Dark Side at chella then check out last year's tour. There's a significant difference.

Anonymous said...

ROGER WATERS IS NOT PLAYING

Anonymous said...

His tour suddenly stops on April 1. Then starts again on April 27 in Mexico city. It's very likely he'll be at coachella.

Anonymous said...

Very likely? Not with a stadium date in LA a few weeks later. Not with a production too elaborate for a festival stage. Not with him having drawn a modest crowd in 2008. Not with the fact that artists often want or need breaks between tours to rest, visit family, whatever else, especially ones pushing 70.

stoned coachella friend said...

^ shut the hell up

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

^Too elaborate for Coachella doesn't make sense.

Anonymous said...

Has waters ever done the wall at a festival? How much time would he need to do the whole album?

Anonymous said...

What about Air?

Anonymous said...

I have seen the Wall tour asshole, and have tickets to see it again it was so amazing. Pink Floyd is my favorite band so I know they have a showman ship quality which fits in perfect with the premier festival in America.

The tour dates do seem to point toward a Coachella date, but not as definitively as Radiohead.

As for Water's crowd in 2008, it was fairly sizable. Did it pale in comparison to the last few years, yes. But that is because there have been more people in attendance the last few years not to mention Justice was up against him. As I left Waters someone next to me said, "and justice for all."

Anonymous said...

Fuck Waters, give me Gilmour!

You're ignorant for laughing at the idea...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

David Hasselhoff was there, too.

Anonymous said...

^Cool, so was I, but unfortunately I don't possess the resume to headline Coachella unlike Tom Petty.

Anonymous said...

Tom Petty? What a boring, uninspiring, lazy pick.

Anonymous said...

Tom Petty is popular but doesn't quite have the legend status that McCartney or Waters had that would make him enough of a crossover with the main Coachella audiences.

Anonymous said...

Tom Petty is great for blazing a j and slippin away, which is a great end to any night at Coachella

Anonymous said...

Tom Petty if he plays the right
setlist would be fantastic.

And he's great live and I could
totally see him on the Friday
night slot. If Elvis Costello is on the maybe list - it could be Tom Petty with Elvis just before.

There, solved.

Plus I would take Tom Petty a million times before Foo Fighters.

i am calling it

TOM PETTY
TOOL
RADIOHEAD*

*Radiohead is already a lock, everyone knows that

For the other two, look at ALL of their tour announcements
all start in spring and curiously skip LA and San Diego and San Fran AND are open for both weekends AND are playing the week before or after in very near areas like Colorado or Arizona

if it isnt TOOL or Petty with Radiohead, then the other two besides Radiohead will be out of this pool:

Foo Fighters *my buddy swears it won't be them because Grohl said he would not go back after the JayZ security was rude to his family when they were trying to leave after the Crooked Vultures performance in '10...apparently they shut down the mainstage backstage area and weren't letting ANYONE leave for like 2 hours including Grohl and it pissed him off big time

Coldplay *unlikely though, they have TWO Hollywood Bowl appearances just after the festival but i do agree that it still could be them as they are huge and do reach so many demographics beyond what Coachella brings, i mean moms and dads flock to see this band and preteens and kids and senior citizens even

Pearl Jam *20th anniversary of them being the first to do the Polo Fields is next year and it is INSANE that they have never done it

Roger waters doing The WAll *also unlikely because he is going LA Coliseum, but then again he did the Bowl 3 times in late 07 before he did Chella in 08

No Doubt *i hate hate hate this rumor but it might be so

Bjork * strong rumor and also new album

it will NOT be anyone else but the above....

it will not be daft punk, the stones, Outkast, White stripes, REM's last show, Eminem and Dre, or Madonna (someone said Madonna like three updates ago and i almost lost my shit, haaaaa)

If Radiohead plays, they will have two weekends which will be two completely different setlists most likely. Look at their previous festival appearances, setlists tend to stray from what they normally do. At APW (which was right after In Rainbows and was a GV festival) they basically did 8 songs from In Rainbows each night and I think basically 15-20 completely different songs. They may have done Idioteque both nights but really nothing else. That's what you can expect from Radiohead. So don't cry if they don't play your 15 favorite songs, they aren't going to.

Pouting about an artists setlist makes no sense, especially at Coachella. Just have a good time. If you don't dig it go see something else. People complain too much. ITS FUCKING RADIOHEAD AT FUCKING COACHELLA.

Anonymous said...

NOT headlining: Tom Petty, Roger Waters, RHCP

Petty's dates are interesting. Going from Colorado to Arkansas to New Mexico quickly really doesn't make sense unless you are playing Coachella, but why schedule a show in Arkansas on 4/21 if you are headlining? Possible, yes, but probable I don't think so.

Plus I don't think he's right for a Coachella headliner. I most likely would not see him, I think he'd have a small crowd at a hipster festival.

Petty fucking kills live.

You guys are greatly underestimating how great a choice he'd actually be...

AKB48 are playing.

Tom Petty? Not that I dislike him, and I'm sure I speak for a LOT of people here but that would disappoint. Bring him on, but not as a headliner jeez.

RADIOHEAD!! WOOT

RADIOHEAD!...
On that note, we can expect to hear a bunch of new material over their 2012 tour. Ed says so.

if petty is there, he is NOT headlining, same goes for tool, sorry its the truth.

Headliners:
Radiohead
Coldplay
Bjork/Foo Fighters

Deal with it.

Not the truth. Nothing to deal with.

if tom petty is there, he is headlining. thats a easy fact. been around 35 years, has a catalog of hits, and has the heartbreakers, who are as good as the e street band. they are awesome live and still play arenas everywhere so he would be a great headliner!

anyone who says tool isn't a headliner is a dolt.

I want to see Tom Petty, but he does not fit in.

COOL IT WITH THE CHILLWAVE

Hey assholes. Glad to see you all suck. Bro rock headliner is Foo Fighters. I'll be in the beer tent during that horseshit unless something good is on.

For those that have a hard time following along, it will be Radiohead, Foo Fighters and Daft Punk.

Have fun talking about other bands that aren't headlining.

If Tool plays they will be
headliner you retard above who
thinks differently. They would
not ask a prior headliner to play
and not headline again.

And Tom Petty would totally be
a headliner and a good one.

How would Petty not fit in at an indie rock festival? Songs like Amerixan Girl fit in with that style of music perfectly!

^ best fake i've seen this year

Anonymous said...

That almost looks real. But is not.

Anonymous said...

Except it's missing QOTSA, Miike Snow, and the XX...

Anonymous said...

My inside sources have confirmed that burial will make his first ever live performance and headline all 3 days :)

Anonymous said...

QOTSA hasn't been good since 2002

Anonymous said...

Helpful hint for fake poster designers. It's not going to be two cloned festivals. Bands aren't locked into the same day. Some smaller acts aren't playing both weekends.

I'd love a Queens set! Their new stuffs supposed to ducking kill.

Anonymous said...

Ducking kill? Sounds rad...

They are actually on my want list, heard the same about their next album.

^ who told you that load of shit?

@231 what planet are you living on? I saw QOTSA twice last year and both shows were amazing. if you have never been to a QOTSA show then you should just shut the fuck up now.
