You idiots think The Killers are going to headline on Sunday after playing the two previous nights in Mexico? Jesus, the retardation runs deep here.

Go ahead and find me a single headliner in the history of Coachella that has played their headlining slot after playing the two nights before. Oh you can't? BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING STUPID.

Who the fuck wants an exhausted band and a singer whose voice is shot being on the third night in a row? NO ONE. Coachella wouldn't allow it, and the band would be fucking stupid to do it.

Why the fuck are The Killers playing in Mexico on April 12th and 13th, with the 14th open, and completely open the following weekend? I'm getting nervous...it's only a 2-3 hour flight from Mexico City to Palm Springs. Why would Paul Tollett do this? WHYYYYYYY?

Anonymous said...

^ He didn't. When a band headlines a major festival they are jacked up for it and want to nail that performance. They wouldn't be playing two shows on back to back nights the few days before. The Killers are also one of the worst headliners in Coachella history, they will not be there. Fact.

Anonymous said...

Except they will. There are many logical reasons why they and their co-headliners might not, but facts trump. In 2 months, you're going to be Dick Morris, and I'll be Nate Silver.

Anonymous said...

Coachella wants headliners on the top of their game, which is why they would NEVER even allow a huge name headliner to play their headlining Coachella night as the THIRD night in a row of performances.

Radiohead played Wed/Thur in Mexico, then Sat at Coachella in Wk 1. Played Tue/Wed in Mex, then Sat in Wk 2. That's the biggest name in music right now, and even they had to have at least 1/2 days off in between.

The fucking Killers are nowhere near that level, and you're a goddamn moron if you think Golden Voice would allow a third-rate headliner like them to give Coachella a sloppy thirds performance when they're barely even headliner material to begin with.

Little Birdy is either dumb as a fucking rock, or is being lied to by some bullshit "friend" who claims to know shit. Either way, ignore the dumbfuck.

Every single available sign and piece of information points the other direction. Deal with it.

Anonymous said...

Radiohead A)has high expectations of their own performances, and B)has fans who also have high expectations.

The Killers A)fucking suck and can mail in a performance the same as nailing a performance, and B)have fans who wouldn't know the difference.

The fact that the Killers headlined 4 years ago -- and are widely regarded as one of the weakest/worst headliners in Coachella history -- is better evidence that they WON'T be there in 2013.

The expansion to 2 weekends requires BIGGER AND BETTER names, not a rehash of a previous shitty headliner that is FAR LESS POPULAR AND RELEVANT today than they were in 2009.

All the evidence surrounding the Killers points to them not headlining, and it's going to take something more than an anonymous nobody to change that.

Next!

Anonymous said...

I think we can all agree that sigur ros will be there. http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/

Anonymous said...

"All the evidence surrounding the Killers points to them not headlining, and it's going to take something more than an anonymous nobody to change that."

How about a lineup announcement?

Anonymous said...

I can't believe this discussion is even taking place.

In order to believe The Killers will be a headliner, you also have to believe that Paul Tollett and the management of Coachella are unbelievably desperate and stupid, that there are no other bigger names for Sunday they could have gotten, and that they completely misread the popularity and status of the Killers (which is 2nd tier at best, probably 3rd tier, and absolutely at a point far lower than they were 4-5 years ago) in today's music market.

Any reputable music journalist or label head could have told you before Battle Born dropped that it was not expected to be big, and that the Killers star had faded far enough that they're no longer in high demand. You really think Tollett isn't also aware of that fact?

If you buy that reality, then sure, the Killers are a headliner. Only an idiot would buy that though. The Coachella track record is filled with many successes and a few random failures, of which the Killers were clearly one of those failures. To think they would repeat that failure so soon after it occurred and get burned again by the same fading band with zero buzz in an era of 2 weekends which requires massive names? Ludicrous.

I kinda disagree with everyone saying that the Killers couldn't potentially headline. They did it before, and if Tollet needs a cheap headliner if he went out and spent a lot of money to get a big name another night it could be possible. I think they would more likely co-headline a night like the Strokes did. Plus, Coachella almost sells out now in the presale and the lineup has almost become irrelevant now. It's a bummer but it's the world we live in now. Coachella has become hipster and trendy.

LockNes said...

No way the Killers headline, Coachella always saves either the currently biggest name to headline or the band that is a rare get.
2012 - Dre. (Rare)
2011 - Kanye (had the album of the year)
2010- Gorillaz (were a rare performance)
2009 - The Cure (legend fuckin dary)
2008 - Roger Waters

I won't go one because I haven't been to other Coachella's. No way in hell the Killers close Coachella. Anyone honestly that thinks that, has no idea what they are talking about. Mumford and Sons would be a better closer.

Anonymous said...

"Coachella almost sells out now in the presale and the lineup has almost become irrelevant now"

"Mumford and Sons would be a better closer."

none of u know SHIT. there are soooo many possibilities for headliners this yr its insane. To say that any of us know who the 3 to 4 headliners are, is just STUPID. Really. SOO many options this yr as so many people are heading out to tour and so many with new material!

The headliners will be from this list below, there are no other options. Tell me if I missed someone, but I think its pretty thorough.

Potential Headliners:

Eminem (new album due in 2013)

Watch The Throne (new album due in 2013)

Muse (new album)

The Who (on tour and doing a specific album ala Waters doing Dark Side in 08)

Pearl Jam (new album and 20 yr anniversary of doing polo fields)

Nine Inch Nails (teased that they are gonna do more shows)

Mumford and Sons (new album)

RHCP (just released an album)

TOOL (new album out next yr)

Depeche Mode (tour announced and no LA dates)

Tom Petty (could happen any year now)

Green Day (THREE new albums, i hope they would be considered too Lollapolooza but who knows)

No Doubt (ugh, I hope not, but new album and Orange County peeps love 'em)

Rolling Stones (they announced final shows, two in London, two in NYC and well.... Chella could fill the two for LA area...??)

Jack White (some say he is a sub, but I disagree, he could headline or co-headline ala Strokes & Kanye)

Atoms For Peace (they could easily co-headline with Jack actually, that could make sense)

Stevie Wonder (tours constantly, only a matter of time before he does Coachella - has done Outside Lands and Bonnaroo)

Beastie Boys and Run DMC final shows (I could see them making Sunday a night dedicated to MCA, I really could. Imagine if they had Run DMC, Q-Tip, Biz Markie and DMC filling in for MCA's lyrics and shit!! That would be amazing. DMC just did Fun Fun Fun Fest and apparently it was a blast. These guys toured together in the late 80s and it could be a nice full circle thing showing what the Beasties and DMC did for rap and thus the headliners that have already done Chella. I could see this. Ad Rock is doing a solo show in LA at Largo in December, so that is one of them getting back out there. Lets see what happen, but I would not rule this out. It is topical, cool and they could do it the way the Dre night was all about showing just how many people got their break due to the Doctor!! I think they could make it a Beasties presents show and just fill it with special guests and do Beasties songs!! They would not do the cheesy hologram though. They'd do it cooler and classier).

NOT POSSIBLE:

Led Zeppelin (come on...)

Pink Floyd (nope, nada)

The Killers (Mexico thing doesn't make sense and no one liked their set in 09)

Bowie (dude is SICK)

The Smiths (get over it)

Talking Heads (nope, will not happen)

Beyonce (just does not fit, could sub maybe, but not headline)

Kings Of Leon (why are people actually listing this as a possibility???)

GNR (never happening, just ask Slash)

Anonymous said...

Ok I'll ask Slash.

Anonymous said...

"none of u know SHIT. there are soooo many possibilities for headliners this yr its insane. To say that any of us know who the 3 to 4 headliners are, is just STUPID"

The Killers, a nominally "indie" (check their song title) band from Las Vegas, are a headlining arena act in America with sales of nearly 5 million records on the strength of 13 charting singles WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY HEADLINED COACHELLA.

Take That, a boy band from Manchester, has charted just once in the US, in 1995, has never gone gold here, and whose last attempt to get any sort of gig in the US, a bid for a one-off opening slot at a Kylie Minogue show at the Hollywood Bowl, got denied when Kaskade was invited instead.

Are you going to tell me next that Radiohead isn't a Coachella headliner because they play the same venues as NKOTBSB? Idiot.

Latest record, opened at #3 (113k in sales) Billboard and then sank like a fucking rock with squat for radio airplay, currently at #98, 8 weeks later.

Comparable with an actual headliner that dropped a new album around the same time:

Mumford - open #1 (600k), 7 weeks later, still at #7, airplay out your ass.

That's the gap between headline material and sub-head. Learn it. Live it. Love it.

Killers haven't had a radio hit in half a decade. The fact that the Brits still care about them doesn't mean shit in terms of Coachella.

I am telling you what is actually happening.

End of story.

hey buddy, I believe you. I will feel better about the Killers, RHCP, and Muse headlining if the subs are great. Do you know if Underworld, or Prodigy, or any other legit electronic artists have been signed?

Anonymous said...

Hey everybody, Dick Morris is telling us what's going to happen. Everybody listen real close!

Anonymous said...

Hilarious.

Little Birdy = Dick Morris
Killers tour dates = current poll data.

Buh. Bye.

Anonymous said...

Muse have two dates at Staples in January. They headlined in 2010. Their tour dates are all on the East Coast in April.

No chance.

"I will feel better about the Killers, RHCP, and Muse headlining if the subs are great."

Coachella would not put 3 alt rock bands together as headliners in the same year. The odds of that happening are about the same as Eminem, Watch The Throne, and Lil Wayne all headlining the same year.

100% not happening.

Anonymous said...

Why is anyone arguing with the dude saying the killers will headline? He's obviously trolling.

Anonymous said...

My brother-in-law works for William Morris, who represents the Killers, and he had a good laugh when I asked him about them playing Coachella.

Anonymous said...

Coachella aside, has anyone heard anything about The Knife? I know a few years ago they said album in 2012 but has there been any news since then?

Anonymous said...

props to this killers troll, fucking dedicated

i fucking hate that band, but its hard to write them off considering theyre headlining lollapalooza brasil and playing mexico with an open coachella date right after. scares the piss out of me, and i really hope it doesnt happen, but i wouldnt write it off. subs at best nowadays hopefully. i just dont see how in the fuck coachella would have them close the festival. especially how bad they suck/how bad they sucked at coachella, and the track record of closing artists over the years. just doesnt make a lot of sense.

Anonymous said...

On this Thanksgiving, I'm thankful to know that Little Birdy and everyone else who thinks the Killers are headlining, are spending the holiday together sucking and fuckin each others butt holes

Anonymous said...

^^Amen brother. Don't forgot lathering each other in peanut butter and stroking each other's tiny cocks while listening to the Killers.

Anonymous said...

Is that what people at GoldenVoice, AEG, William Morris, ICM, CAA, and Q-Prime, etc. do in their spare time?

Anonymous said...

Wish someone would lather my tiny cock up with peanut butter and listen to the Killers with me.

Just look between Coachella 1999 and Coachella 2009 headliners... now say "I'M SORRY" and leave.

YOU REALLY MUST BE NEW HERE

THE KILLERS ARE NEVER COMING BACK TO COACHELLA, NINE INCH NAILS ON THE OTHER HAND...

Depeche Mode and Blur are for sure.

"Just look between Coachella 1999 and Coachella 2009 headliners... now say "I'M SORRY" and leave."

Hey fuckface, in the 3-day, 3-headliner era (2007-2012) THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A YEAR WITH 3 ALT ROCK HEADLINERS.

Now go suck a bag of cocks in hell and die, you stupid douchefuck. No one gives a fuck if there were ever 3 alt rock bands in the entire lineup, that's not what was referenced. I'm talking HEADLINERS, asshole. And in the 2-day, 2-headliner era, it was fucking IMPOSSIBLE to have 3 headliners period.

So go choke on your daily ration of dicks and shut your fucking piehole.

Anonymous said...

Mmmm, pie. Can't wait for Thanksgiving!

"in the 3-day, 3-headliner era (2007-2012) THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A YEAR WITH 3 ALT ROCK HEADLINERS"

Oh beginner, let me say something:

This year, the sunday headliner was Black Sabbath, but they cancelled around 2 days before the line-up announcement so GV needed to look a replacement: Dre and Snoop.

Originally, 2012 Black Sabbath were going to be at the first line on sunday, no Dre and Snoop.

http://www.contactmusic.com/news/coachella-2012-black-sabbath-withdraw-after-iommis-diagnosis_1282313

So you go choke on your daily ration of dicks and shut your fucking piehole.

Anonymous said...

Ahahahahahaha. As if Black Sabbath is alt rock to begin with. Holy shit you're fucking dumb. They're fucking metal you douchbag. Not to mention THEY NEVER HEADLINED.

So take your shoulda woulda coulda fantasy scenario which never came about (and which wouldn't even qualify anyway with a goddamn METAL band) and shove it up your vagina.

Still waiting for those 3 ALT ROCK bands headlining in the same year. Tick tick tick tick tick...

Anonymous said...

Not to menion this in the link YOU GAVE: "It's unsure who of the three eventually announced headliners Radiohead, Dr Dre & Snoop Dogg and The Black Keys were called in as the last-minute replacements."

So you just cherry-picked the one headliner you wanted to replace even though there's never been any confirmation of it, and you still couldn't make the fantasy work.

Fucking dolt.

Anonymous said...

What kind of moron thinks that even one of the headliners is "alt-rock"?

Anonymous said...

Come on Monk, this is a poor effort even by your standards. The actual lineup's only a month and a half out, can't we get some sort of Thanksgiving update?

Anonymous said...

buncha whiny crybaby bitches.

Feel free to plug "alternative rock" followed by each band's name into Google and watch your head explode.

Anonymous said...

I heard Coachella is going to be the Killers playing all their albums over 2 weekends. Death Grips will open each night playing free flowing Jazz. You can all exhale now.

FRIDAY - Depeche Mode
SATURDAY - Jack White/Atoms For Peace
SUNDAY - Run DMC w/ Ad Rock and Mike D (and many special guests, big MCA send-off)

Straight from GV employee^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

NO DAFT. Very sorry to report this. They do not have the album ready. FACT. :(

Deadmau5 closing mainstage on Friday, Mumford is just a sub. So is QOTSA, Wu Tang, Fiona Apple, Blur, Stone Roses, Garbage, Yeasayer, Sigur Ros and The XX and Phoenix.

I will not say the reunion as he/she would then know I posted this, as he/she has def not told anyone else. It's a great reunion (its on par with Iggy and Stooges and Pixies - all will be happy).

Eminem dropped out. Not ready. NIN is doing summer shows in Aug. I bet Lolla will get them.

Hilarious that any of u think Killers are coming...

Why has Spacehog never been asked to reunite and play the outdoor theater?!?!?!?!?

SPACEHOG!!!!!!

What older acts/legends can we start talking about that have yet to do it? In the Leonord Cohen/Willie Nelson/Sly & Family Stone category...?

Tom Waits has been discussed here ...

I think Aretha Franklin would be cool.
Chuck Berry would be amaaaazingly cool.
Really odd that The Wailers have never done it.
Also Elvis Costello.
And what about Parliament in the Mojave??

Who else? Let's discuss!!

Anonymous said...

Sheriff, everything sounds legit (as in possible) except the Sunday headliner. Run DMC and 2/3 of the Beasties (even with special guests) really wouldn't get many people excited. Hell, the full Beasties with MCA still alive wouldn't have been much of a headliner.

Also wondering about Jack White. He's been a festival whore for the last year, and I'm wondering if Coachella wants to get the tail end of that train.

Anonymous said...

What about jamiroquai?

that would be fun in a tent...they make people DANCE

Anonymous said...

WHY LANA? WHY?

New Sheriff In Town said...

Dude. People would ABSOLUTELY get excited about a special guest-filled extravaganza like last year's Dre and Snoop (with Kendrick, 50 Cent, Eminem, Warren G and Wiz).

Imagine who the Beasties and Run DMC could bring out?? Biz Markie, Tribe Called Quest, Mix Master Mike, etc. And shit, Run could bring out Steven Tyler, Pete Rock and more.

And yes people care about both bands. One started hip hop and one made the first band to do hip hop in a slick, hip, silly way!

People filling in on MCA's lyrics and also cutting to shots of him doing it himself (ala how they cut to Nate Dogg last yr during Dre's set) would be cool.

Run DMC just headlined Fun Fun Fun Fest last wk in Austin btw. And Beasties were pegged to come back to Coachella the yr after they were gonna do Putside Lands in 09 (they cancelled due to MCA starting to slide downhill).

They also played there when Chella started to grow in '03.

As far as Jack White, GV does try for the most part to get that one "how'd they get them" rare-y type act every yr (Gorillaz, McCartney, Prince, etc.), but they every year there is someone that is not a rare "get" and they're on the road and are just there cause they are purely "relevant" (Killers, Muse, Kings Of Leon, Arcade Fire, Black Keys). And as far as them not wanting to grab someone that has been on a festival victory tour, well, they grabbed the Black Keys after having them actually at Coachella the previous year as subs... they also had Arcade Fire and The Strokes and The Black Keys in 2011 which was only 8 months after Lollapolooza had the same acts. There is a ton of sharing amongst Outside Lands and Bonnaroo and Coachella these days. Radiohead did Bonn and Chella this year (also The Shins, Bon Iver). Jay-Z did Chella and Bonn same year. Sometimes they get whoever at the start of their festival touring and sometimes at the tail end..

Trust me, hipsters would love Run DMC. And who does not like the Beastie Boys and who would not wanna send MCA off with an amazing cap to an amazing wknd?

Count me in.

The only problem I have with the fake lineup above is that no way deadmau5 would close the main stage after Depeche mode...that's electronic sacrelig

Anonymous said...

"And who does not like the Beastie Boys and who would not wanna send MCA off with an amazing cap to an amazing wknd?"

Everyone under the age of 25, which is 75% of the Coachella audience.

Look, I get your point, but I just think you vastly overestimate what young people know about Run DMC and how much they care about sending the Beasties off with a bang.

You realize that out of these names...Biz Markie, Tribe Called Quest, Mix Master Mike, Steven Tyler, Pete Rock...the ONLY one young people recognize is Steven Tyler, and that's just because of American Idol and not Walk This Way, right?

The comparison with Dre/Snoop is a poor one. The younger crowd knows Dre and Snoop because they were more 90s and early 2000s. Run DMC/Beasties hit their peak in the 80s, when most of these kids were in diapers.

Anonymous said...

"Everyone under the age of 25, which is 75% of the Coachella audience."

Going to be a big shock when everyone who thinks NIN, Depeche Mode, Outkast, etc. are headlining realizes that they are now officially old.

Anonymous said...

Thanksgiving Day! We deserve a new post!

Anonymous said...

Fuck 27 is confusing. Am I young? Am I old? I know who Dre is. I know who Run DMC is. I know Steven Tyler as American Idol judge, stage diver, and even jerked it to videos staring Alicia Silverstone. I'm fucked.

LPPO said...

Just because you said it, now I believe you, FUCK OFF!!

deputy said...

you know why there will be no "mca sendoff/blow out"..
gv would not copy dre/snoop performance style simply with different people....
coachella would become the place to "send off" the latest performer to have sadley died... no one wants to see that, let the beasties rest in peace dont bucher mca's performances with people doing it for him. gv knows this

Anonymous said...

I don't know which evening, but Skrillex will be playing the main stage at some point over the weekends. Be afraid.
