@6:20, so did Fever Ray in 2010

Anonymous said...

Nobody fucking cares if they liked it or not last time they were there. Money talks and bands always listen.

Anonymous said...

Please, first off 75% of the audience is not 25 or younger, second NIN isn't any older or less relevent than Radiohead, Dre/Snoop, Gorillaz, The Cure, Paul McCartney, Prince, Roger Waters, Bjork, RHCP, or RATM. Coachella only panders one headliner a year to the younger crowd, younger audiences don't care about 2/3 of the lineup every year. I'm sure they were all going nuts for Pulp and Leonard Cohen too.

Anonymous said...

"first off 75% of the audience is not 25 or younger"

Have you been to Coachella lately?

Post a fucking update you bitch!

I'm thinking about hitting up Coach and the farm this year.
Anyone on here ever been to Bonnaroo? How in depth do they search you as you go in? Similar to Coach?
I also see that Glowsticks are on there not allowed list, are they serious?

RIP Monklish

Anonymous said...

Bonnaroo is a gigantic pile of dusty shitfest. Avoid at all costs. I wouldn't go back if they paid me.

Monk is also Indiechella so shes trying to promote both sites by keeping this one dead forcing you to the other...genius strategy

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

"Little Birdy and MotorAve are not the same person. But they both know what's up."

Of course they're not. Just a coincidence they're selling the same line of bullshit in the exact same manner.

Anonymous said...

MotorAve REALLY cares if you believe him or not. It is very important to him that you know what he supposedly knows.

LockNes said...

I usually don't ask for an update Monk because I know that when you have sufficient updates you usually update, but this is a very long delay for you. Anonymous said...

You could do much worse than RHCP as the "friday before the dance act " headliner. Anyone who says they wouldnt be more enjoyable than mumford and sons, phoenix or (insert trendy radio play band) is either 12 years old or a cynical douchebag. Plus if youve been to coachella more than once you recognize headliners dont matter and that your specific musical tastes will be met at one of the other 4 stages. Every year people think they have the possible headliners figured out to a t and every year Coachella throws curveballs. Noone saw Dr. Dre + friends as even a possibility until it happened, and while for much different reasons the same goes for the Black Keys. So everyone chill and trust that the best festival in the world is going to deliver some epic shit regardless of what the boards, monklish or indiechella say

And I agree with someone who posted earler. Despite the fact that from what I'm hearing RHCP is not going to be at Coachella this year and truly will be done touring after Mexico, there are far worse options than RHCP, especially if RHCP has a Frusciante reunion.

In any case, if Underworld plays vs RHCP I don't care.

Debunk this...
do what u will...
But i work for an important individual and yes I check this site cause i have been going to Chella since before I worked for him and just love this time of year before it is released!!

The facts are this...

no Killers
no RHCP
no Eminem
no Muse
no No Doubt (thank GOD)
no Blur as a headliner ( L O freaking L btw people, seriously)
no Stones (this ain't a festival that needs to pay for stuff like THAT anymore)
no My Morning Jacket (see Blur)
no Depeche Mode
no TOOL
no Neil Young (wrapping up his current schedule in fact - we work closely with him, not FOR him, but closely).
no Sigur Ros (only because their people fought on a co-headlining billing since they knew about Atoms' same thing... they reasoned that they have ONE album and it is even unreleased and that they crushed the polo fields last time and that they have been around forever.... they bailed due to this, dead serious, it is why the dates line up HOWEVER they bailed due to their peoples' urging - FACT).
no Wu Tang (come on, Paul would only book this act if he wanted to let people down ala Sly and Family Stone - they never ALL show up and half are always to fucked up to perform properly).

Your headliners:

FRIDAY - Mumford & Sons co headlining with Atoms For Peace (Deadmau5 closing mainstage)
SATURDAY - Daft Punk
SUNDAY - Rage Against The Machine

Subs - QOTSA, Jack White (on Atoms' night and there will be a slight collab here ala Bonnaroo), The XX, The Replacements, Twin Shadow, Armin Van Buuren, Blur, Ben Folds Five, Headhunterz, Skrillex, Iggy and The Stooges, Bad Brains, Stone Roses, Above & Beyond, Sufjan Stevens, Morissey, Phoenix, Underworld, Steve Aoki, and David Byrne/St Vincent.

Famous story that those-in-the-know-know-of:
GNR with Slash was offered Smiths-esque money and TURNED IT DOWN vehemently on all sides. One thing is for sure - this band will never play Coachella. Not because of them, but because they have been banned due to the letter that was received from Axyl. Nastiest thing u ever read in your life and it was rude to all parties (not just to the other band members but to execs that "even thought of doing the worst thing ever om this fine planet" - exact quote).

There is one reunion that everyone on this site says is impossible (and is oddly on the lower end of Saturday's bill btw) and it will get people excited on here but not many others (why you guys pray for it even is beyond me, it's sub-par at best). Starts with "T", and is two words. i will respond to good guesses (first word is one syllable and 2nd word is two).

Literally do not care if you think I am full of shit.

See u 2nd wknd!!!!!

Nice try, 11:36. For your next bullshit tl;dr, keep these points in mind:
1. Your Friday is too stacked. Two coheadliners followed by a dance closer? No.
2. That scenario would have Jack White at 7pm at the latest.
3. Sufjan Stevens is scared of big festival crowds.
4. Mumford & Sons would have to be Saturday because of their tour schedule.
5. Sigur Ros' people don't expect them to headline Coachella, just playing at night.
6. 2ManySubs

Do you guys even remember the year Madonna was there? She was added late, she wasn't on the initial line up. She was touring the Hard Candy album at the time. Coachella were selling single day tickets at the time when they announced her, none of those days were sold out. They announce her and that day instantly sells out, because people thought they were going to beat the system to see a cheaper Madonna show (I believe the cheap seats were still cost more at a Madonna show than one day at Coachella - fact check that one) Any way Paul Oakenfold opened for her and warmed up the crowd, She did 6 songs, half new, but for those there she did Everybody, a song she never plays. The set was good till you realized that she was done after the 6th song. That's where the back lash came from. Even on the poster it advertised "special appearance by Madonna." She was not the headliner, never the headliner, and she sold out that day for Coachella. You can argue she paved the way for acts like Prince and Paul McCartney, bigger than life mainstream acts, that followed. Sure that year was also Daft Punk, which tops Madonna's performance, but she plays a much bigger part in Coachella's history than you are giving her credit for. But then again you were probably still in diapers when this all happened, so your ignorance is excused.

genieweenie said...

So yes Madonna could headline Coachella so go cry about that.

Anonymous said...

Wow, so much wrong with that post its laughable.
No one said Madonna isn't a huge draw, and no one said she isn't extremely influential on certain artists. Plenty of big draws and memorable coachella performances have happened before the sun even sets, so that argument is moot.

The topic of discussion was can she headline. You brought up when she was announced, single day ticket sales but never addressed the fact she was billed 3rd on her day back when coachella really needed star power to sell tickets. The fact is no matter how much that set meant to you or coachella, it was nothing close to a headliner set. And now that shes on the wrong side of 50 and has to slum around Avicii making drug references to stay relevant I know for a fact that she cannot headline. Not then, not now, not ever.

And while the condescending bullshit makes you seem really tough, the fact is you were prancing around at Madonna instead of getting prime real estate for Massive Attack and Tool like the rest of us who were there in 06, fucking loser

Anonymous said...

Who is bringing the beats to Coachella? CHRIS BROWN

Anonymous said...

lol at Madonna can't headline. she already had a big draw one year. you think if she's on the poster everyone is going to be like, "damn, she sucked in 06!" No. they will go check her out. who cares if she didn't headline. headliners were fixed. she was a late add. you think if they bumped her name up a line that they would sell more tickets, no.
imagine her name under a headliner like the Killers or Jack Johnson. never happen. just cause you don't want her doesn't mean she's not extremely popular with people who attend Coachella. likely, no. deserving, of course. it's Madonna you twat.
keep hearing about relevance. al least she's made new music since she played before. unlike artists that people ask for every year. like Daft Punk. how relevant are they really?
she's touring. selling out arenas worldwide. has been for like 3 decades. but according to you, no one likes her.

Anonymous said...

The average Coachella goer was born after Madonna lost her relevancy. No way it happens.

Anonymous said...

^ agree. plenty of people would go see her at Coachella that would not pay to see her on her own.

LockNes said...

Madonna can not headline Coachella at this point in time. You guys are about as dumb as the people thinking the Killers are a headliner this year.

Anonymous said...

certain acts do not need to be relevant, and are simply classic enough to headline whenever. Prince, Macca, Waters. Madonna is one of those. Just as logical as the Stones. sorry if you don't like her, but i think the only proven fact relevant is that she damn popular. maybe she did have a bad show in 06 (i don't know i was watching something else) but she's not typically known for giving bad performances or putting on bad shows. i think she would fit the bill perfect. do i think she'll be there, no. but to call her irrelevant or not worthy is just ignorant. the only reason you people are saying she is not worthy or relevant is because you don't want it. plain and simple. there are plenty of people who would want it. deal with it. you live in a world where people like Madonna.

Anonymous said...

NO

I don't know what fantasy world you live in but in 2012 Madonna is popular like Justin Beiber is popular. She has a rabid fanbase of diehards and sells tickets to said base. She is not anywhere close to the living legend status of the others you mentioned. She's a fading pop star who you are comparing to some of the most influential names in the history of rock and roll. Is she a huge influence? Yea, on Lady Gaga, who has a better shot of headlining than Madonna. Madonna shouldnt even be in the same breath as the Stones. One is a act that Coachella would be so lucky to have headline. The other is at best subheadliner playing the last outdoor slot. The fact you would mention Madonna in the same breath as the Stones, Macca and Prince shows how little you know about Coachella

Anonymous said...

this whole madonna thing is dumb as fukc. yes she is a icon. and that icon status got her a 2nd line spot in 2006 when the festival wasnt anywhere near as big.

Madonna=/=headliner so everyone qft

MONK HOW ABOUT AN UPDATE PLEASE

Anonymous said...

Madonna with a full show could EASILY headline Coachella. This is obvious and there is no question about it. She wanted the DANCE tent in 2006 because of her DANCE album. With that said, Madonna is not headlining Coachella 2013.

Anonymous said...

She's more than big enough, but she's too costly, shitty, and irrelevant for GV to bother ever booking her as one. End of discussion.

Anonymous said...

"bigness" isn't the only thing a festival considers when they book an act. Plenty of acts would love to play Coachella who are more than "big" enough but aren't relevent to the scene. Rihanna Usher, and Katy Perry have all showed up at the last two Coachellas. Any of them would LOVE to play Coachella. They are all huge, more relevent and known to today's crowd than Madonna, and sell out arenas all over the world. But guess what, none will ever be a Coachella headliner, or most likely even be offered anything other than a David Guetta guest appearance. Just because Madonna is big doesn't mean she's ever going to be a headliner.

Anonymous said...

Sunday headliner is a Diddy comeback gig with Lil' Kim, Ma$e, Foxy Brown, Faith Evans, The LOX, Grace Jones, T.I., Drake, Lil; Wayne, Tinie Tempah, Jimmy Page and more, and a next level Biggie tribute

I just think if they were going to headline Madonna, they'd rather just headline someone like Beyonce, who's probably cheaper, more "now", and doesn't come with any baggage.

From USA TODAY...Outside of Madonna, the biggest acts on the bill are Depeche Mode and Tool — though successful, hardly on the superstar pop level of Madonna. Others include the punk rockers Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Orthodox Jewish reggae singer Matisyahu and the electronica dance duo Daft Punk.

Certainly Madonna's appeal is universal and organizers are pleased as punch to have there. She brings with her, however, a magnetic megastar effect — some will want to see her simply out of curiosity.

Coachella's website message board heated up when Madonna announced she would play the festival, prompting some unseemly posts like "I hope Madonna chokes on a crumpet."

Some fear a logjam of humanity at the smaller stage where she's set to appear — the Sahara dance tent, catering to an audience and a feel more in line with the her recent works rooted in the same electronica genre.

How exactly did The Madonna Factor come into play? Paul Tollette, co-founder of Goldenvoice, the company that puts on Coachella, said he was still looking for a big name for the popular dance tent and they started considering one of the biggest names of them all.

"We didn't have anyone for the second night. We got to talking and we said, 'What do you think about Madonna?'" Tollette recalled. A few phone calls and mutual friends later and Madonna was a go for Coachella (Madonna declined to be interviewed for this article).

Tollette acknowledged that adding Madonna to the bill has presented some logistical challenges — more people craning their neck to see her. To address that, he's put in place some spatial changes at the Sahara tent to accommodate more people — more than the thousands that usually fit inside.

To maintain the integrity of that plan, Tollette chose not to elaborate on those changes, but he's well aware the magnitude of Madonna commands full attention.

"There will be some people here specifically for her," Tollette said, adding the caveat "They'll be overwhelmed by Coachella people." (It's worth noting that he drew a distinction between the two camps).

There are no main stage acts going on at the same time as Madonna, but there are some acts on smaller stages during her set. Tollette predicts that there will be plenty of people taking in those other acts while Madonna does her thing.

Is Madonna the biggest act to ever hit the stage at Coachella?

"That depends on your definition of big," Tollette said. "She's probably sold more records than anyone we've had at Coachella."

Tollette admits many people can't understand why Madonna — whose summer tour this year is perhaps the most anticipated — would play there.

But Tollette added: "She knows a lot of the DJs that have played the Sahara tent, so this isn't anything new for her."

World renown DJ Paul Oakenfold plays on the same night as Madonna in the dance tent. They're friends, have toured together, and Oakenfold has done several well-received remixes of Madonna's songs.

He said Madonna likely could have requested to play on a big stage at Coachella, but wisely choose to stick with the electronica-themed "Sahara" tent.

"That's an incredible boost for the electronic scene," Oakenfold said. "To choose the less is more. It's a smaller situation, but it's going to be unbelievable."

"I think this is extremely cutting edge for an artist of that pedigree," he added. "It's going to draw a lot of attention to that tent."

And who does USA today sell papers to? Mainly people who don't go to coachella. Coachella is not mainstream. Put Madonna's name on any mainstream anything it will sell. And Tollette's comments seem like he really wanted to be talking about Madonna. He ever questioned the "definition of big."
He is embarrassed to have used her to sell tickets.

^ this is poorly written commentary. what the hell is your point?
i think it's been established that not only can she play the festival, but can easily headline if that is the direction the festival wanted to go. the only question that remains is taste. understandably, many people would rather have someone else, but any idiot knows that the main stage would be packed for an act like Madonna.
Coachella isn't worried about tickets sales anymore. it sells out. as long as the line up is stacked, they can choose any headliner they want. sorry people but Paul T doesn't share your low opinions of Madonna. you people would bitch with the same arguments if it was Bjork, someone who headlined twice.

I'll be damned...Monklish nailed the two biggest headliners almost a year in advance...she doesn't need to make another post this season.

I hope you are right Inside Man. i was a doubter of NIN and boom, new NIN info comes out.

Anonymous said...

some people act like because Coachella sold out the past couple of years it's a 100% guarantee it will always sell out until the end of time. They do care about ticket sales, and they do need to keep having good lineups if they plan on continuing to sell out the fest. Lame lineups the next two years would cause sales to drop.

wack headliners or acts do not = wack line up.

one band does not stop people from going to the festival. plus, they sell a bunch of tickets before the line up even comes out.

Let's stop fighting for a moment and think about how amazing it's going to be to watch Sigur Rós on the polo fields at night this year.
