FIRST

still no headliners besides Radiohead?

Anonymous said...

Monk, have you heard even whispers about possible headliners? Coldplay? No Doubt? Bjork? Daft?

Even info that wouldn't warrant putting them on the list.

Anonymous said...

How hard is it admitting you already messed up??!!! GET THE NAKED & FAMOUS OFF THE LIST!!

Anonymous said...

lol, the Naked and Famous are this year's Groove Armada.

Anonymous said...

Needs Moar Elvis Costello

Anonymous said...

naked and famous are this year's godspeed, neil young, etc etc. maybe godspeed is also this year's godspeed. hard to say.

Anonymous said...

Anon @ 1:57
what do you speak of? The headliners are already listed.
Radiohead•My Morning Jacket•LMFAO

Anonymous said...

The Rapture is a nice addition

Anonymous said...

Monklish - http://www.thenakedandfamous.com/tour.php

Unless they are only playing weekend 2, it's not happening.

Anonymous said...

Why does everyone think that Monk can't be right about Naked and Famous. It is obvious that the lineup won't be 100% the same. I will guarantee that about 20-30 bands are different each weekend.

Anonymous said...

@834

You can guarantee that? how so? Educated guess? Pretty dumb to guarantee this based on a guss when the promoter himself has said no one has declined because they had to play both weekends. There may be some variation, but 20-30 acts? Doubt it.

Anonymous said...

guess*

Anonymous said...

Sleigh Bells Three-peat??

Anonymous said...

Little Dragon should be on that list . ADD

Anonymous said...

I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Glad to see a new list already. Unfortunately, most of these acts are on the lame side.

Anonymous said...

So far this is looking like the world's worst pitchfork festival. No wonder they're keeping it under wraps. What are the odds on GV putting tix back on sale before the lineup is announced?

This will be my lastchella if the actual lineup is as weak as this list

Anonymous said...

You people who say this list is not living up to expectations so far , your crazy !!! Radiohead , My Morning Jacket , PULP , Justice , and i can name at least 4 other very strong artists on this list that will make for another sold out , and wonderful Coachella .

Anonymous said...

More reasons to stay home in April for the first time in 8 years. But this line-up is not going to get me back to Indio...expecially when all of these bands play NYC anyway. Uts not like we live in Kansas or Montana.

Anonymous said...

"If this is the lineup, I am not going".... I read different variations of this quote every single year on here. Coachella has anywhere from 150-180 acts..... No prediction list has that many acts listed or even close to it. Chill out, retards.

Anonymous said...

@ 1020
I live in AZ. , and we get alot of good artists that come here too , ex. Radiohead . There is no other other festival with the vibe and atmosphere of Coachella . Why wouldnt anyone not want to experience the awesomeness that Coachella brings every year ?

Anonymous said...

What about Roger Waters The Wall? He's taking the entire month of April off before Mexico? http://tour.rogerwaters.com/

Anonymous said...

Let me ask you something 1020 . What artist would it take to get you to come back to Coachella ?

Anonymous said...

@1030
nice observation . i only hope so .
i seen him when he was here in AZ.
and the show was good . i liked darkside of the moon better though . only because i like that album more .
i would love to see him on the polo fields again .
A weekend of repeats ?
Radiohead
Bjork
Roger Waters

Anonymous said...

Pretty clear that they're going to blow most of their budget on headliners, and the undercard is getting the shaft.

Looking like the weakest lineup in years. Stay-in-your-condo-til-7pm-chella.

Anonymous said...

^ Obligatory hipster post about how it's going to be "the worst Coachella ever."

It's not like we hear that EVERY year.

Anonymous said...

Hate to break it to you hipsters, BUT NO ONE GIVES A FLYING FUCK IF YOU ATTEND COACHELLA OR NOT.

Anonymous said...

Usually want to see a fourth of the actual lineup but i want to see a third of these. Bring it.

Anonymous said...

the headliners aren't breaking the bank. radiohead, bjork and daft punk combined cost significantly less than a roger waters, prince or paul mccartney.

Anonymous said...

Does Santigold = Santogold?

If so, how dare you misspell something!?! That's it, I'm staying home. Worst Coachella ever. LOLJK

Anonymous said...

Santogold was Santigold's first album...how confusing is that??!

Anonymous said...

Santogold had to change her name to Santigold. Fucking google, how does that work?

Anonymous said...

12:30, your list is just Monklish's with a few names added and a few removed. Fuck off.

Anonymous said...

U idiot if u actually knew anything about music u would know Santogold changed her name to Santigold.

Anonymous said...

I don't think I've ever seen a comments section for any festival anywhere that people were not complaining about the linuep. And the hilarious thing is we don't even know 1 name on this year's lineup.

Of course, Coachella used to have headliners in the so-called "golden age" like Beastie Boys, Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Jane's Addiction, etc. Somehow those are great headliners because it happened in 2003, but now a band like Radiohead=bad lineup.

Also, at this point last year we were getting reports on this blog of Daft Punk, the Stones, etc, would be playing. So to think this is in any way going to be the real lineup is dumb and unfounded.

Seriously, if you are ALREADY complaining about the lineup Coachella is just not for you. Please stay home and don't ruin the amazing vibe at the festival every year. I PROMISE we will not miss you!

Anonymous said...

^ This!

Anonymous said...

^this
The fact Monk isnt even guessing on headliners means they have it pretty under wraps.

Daft Punk and Stones were on her list until january and Kanye came in about 4 days b4 the lineup dropped. Take this with a grain of salt, its just nice to have a list of possible acts. You should be using this list to discover new bands to listen to and see if you like any possibles not whine about an artist or two. GV will do a good job and if not you can roll your problems away in the sahara.

Anonymous said...

The Naked And Famous

All credibility lost.

Monklish said...

Glad to see your make it or break it band is the Naked and Famous.

Anonymous said...

I love how all the knee-jerk Coachella defenders act like dumbass rednecks when it comes to their beloved festival:

"Love it or leave it! Our little slice of heaven is beyond criticism from the likes of you!"

You may as well be Joe Dirt standing in the Home Depot parking lot yelling at Mexicans.

Sometimes Coachella has a great lineup (2006, 2007, 2010), and sometimes it don't (2009, 2011).

Quit pretending like anyone that attends has to take a vow of Omerta and say nothing that might offend the obnoxious Coachella message board fanboys.

If it blows, it blows. 90% of the names on this list so far...they blows.

Monklish said...

@322 You are correct. I am not guessing on the headliners. That is why Radiohead is the only one on the list.

As much as it costs to book My Morning Jacket, I would not be too surprised if they were headlining, though.

Anonymous said...

Glad to see your make it or break it band is the Naked and Famous.

What? The fact that they are booked the entire first weekend of Coachella is the reason I said that.

Anonymous said...

Radiohead/My Morning Jacket/LMFAO for the win

Anonymous said...

is there really a chance of godspeed you black emperor or pulp?

Anonymous said...

MMJ would be the most disappointing headliner EVER.

Anonymous said...

If you know anything about Godspeed you know they won't be there. They do 2.5 hour shows in tiny music halls and charge $20 for tickets. They're not going to get in bed with Heineken Inc to play 50 minutes (2 songs) for frat boys, e-tards, and hipster douches.

Anonymous said...

You guys are all a bunch of fucking faggots.

Anonymous said...

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is not performing at Coachella. I spoke to the guy running the soundboard at their previous Great American Music Hall shows, because it was pretty clear that he was recording everything. He explained that they were wanting to release a live album, and I assumed that it was going to be of those shows. Spoke with Efrim after a Silver Mt Zion show, and he said that they were planning on recording a live album in the spring in San Francisco. Thus they booked 5 nights at the Great American Music Hall again.

Also, anyone that has ever asked any of the Silver Mt Zion/Godspeed members about Coachella or any other outdoor festival knows that they will politely explain that they do not play loud, large, corporate events.

Anonymous said...

Godspeed are more likely to play George W Bush's Backyard BBQ than they are Coachella.

Not. Happening. Ever.

Anonymous said...

"they do not play loud, large, corporate events."

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don't let the Coachella message board douche brigade find out that the only thing "indie" about their precious festival is the volume of indian headdresses.

Anonymous said...

MMJ are not headlining Coachella

Anonymous said...

Radiohead
Bjork
Kraft Punk in 3D

Anonymous said...

DRAKE.

Anonymous said...

Drake sucks.

Anonymous said...

Seriously. This lineup is extremly underwhelming

Anonymous said...

There are some huge names you are leaving off. 90% of thoses acts are nobodys. Where are the big names? And I'm not just talking about headliners

Anonymous said...

It seems like this festival has blown thru most of the good acts over the past few years. Its hard to make a great lineup without getting a lot of repeats this year. Its either repeats (which is fine by me) or they have the shitty lineup you see above. There is seriously maybe 5 on the list that id be excited for.

Anonymous said...

New Golden Voice strategy:

Step 1: Hold the pre-sale before anything is announced to suck in the hipsters and frat boys who'll shell out their cash blind.

Step 2: Get one or two massive draw headliners to sell the rest of the tickets.

Step 3: Fill in the undercard with cheap, shitty, but "trendy" bands and Brit-rock retreads.

Step 4: Laugh all the way to the bank.

Seriously said...

Tina Turner

Anonymous said...

I can think of dozens of great acts that have never played, but most probably never will.

Anonymous said...

BOARD IS DOWN SO THEREFORE BOWIE IS CONFIRMEDZZZZ!

Anonymous said...

This list has maybe 30-40 correct acts out of a total of 150-175 that will end up on the lineup. Coachella gets better every year and 2012 will be no different

Anonymous said...

i have a feeling we'll be seeing miike snow announced as well...

Anonymous said...

And The xx.

Anonymous said...

^DEFINITELY each of those and Yeasayer as well.

Rinoceronte said...

Some of the bands playing in Mexico in March and April include:
Radiohead, Roger Waters, Portishead, Foster The People, Kaiser Chiefs, TV on The Radio, Kasabian, Gogol Bordello... just saying.

Anonymous said...

instead of throwing insane money at the Rolling stones, GV should throw about half of that money to R.E.M to see if they would do 2 final shows.

That would be a big draw that nobody else would have.

As a fan of REM, I think it was time for them to stop making music, but the only regret on a brilliant career was to have 1 final goodbye.

That might be a pipe dream but it would be awesome.

Anonymous said...

it seems that coldplay may be out of the question judging by their tour dates. can i get a hallelujah?

Anonymous said...

I would love to see an REM farewell show as well, but i don't see it happening.

Anonymous said...

"I'm not guessing the headliners"...

So you admit that your list is comprised of guesses.

Anonymous said...

Dunno about Coldplay. The gaps in their tour mirror the festival dates perfectly. Seems strange.

Anonymous said...

I dropped $6500 on a safari tent.....don't care about headliners but I will stab myself in the face if MMJ and Bjork are headliners.

Seems PJ might still be an option given they are doing euro festivals in June and July.

Anonymous said...

REM final show would be EPIC.

Return of Miike Snow would make me very happy, they killed in 2010.

Headliners? Radiohead and Coldplay are locked, maybe Foo Fighters/Bjork split for third day?

Still hoping for Beastie Boys, Coachella needs some kind of big hip-hop act to fill the gap from the last two years of jay-z and kanye headlining

As much as I like them, My Morning Jacket would be a horrible headliner

Justice is headlining Sahara one of the nights, any suggestions who might close Sahara any other nights?

Anonymous said...

i still want to know what the PULP rumor is based on

Anonymous said...

Coldplay is playing the Hollywood Bowl My 1 & 2.

I'm hoping that means they won't be at Coachella. Isn't there a radius clause?

Anonymous said...

Sorry, May 1 & 2.

Anonymous said...

Justice will be closing the main stage one night, not the Sahara Tent.

Like Tiesto or Chemical Brothers in the past years.

Anonymous said...

^^^exactly, SO STOKED!

Anonymous said...

^Lets hope their live performance is not as horrible as their new album. Biggest waste of $10 in my entire life. It is absolutely terrible.

Anonymous said...

Justice is no longer popular enough for that. They will be in the Sahara. If any EDM act plays the main stage, it will be a headliner set from Daft Punk, or Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, or Deadmau5 closing after the headliner.

Anonymous said...

Armin Van Buuren as well

Anonymous said...

I'd say that Coldplay is out given the radius provision.

Anonymous said...

But Coldplay has no dates announced during the festival. I wouldn't count them out at all.

Anonymous said...

Agreed - new Justice isn't only bad but its embarrassing too. Epic follow up failure. They need to embrace that we liked the daft influence.

Anonymous said...

GV is not going to book Coldplay with them having two nights booked in LA two weeks later. Pretty sure that eliminates them but you never know.

Anonymous said...

Id say Coldplays tour dates pretty much exclude them unless they are going to travel from Canada and back for each weekend

Anonymous said...

These Coldplay dates make them 100% out. No chance for Coldplay.

Also, the new Justice album isn't that bad. In a year you'll all be digging it.

Anonymous said...

hey monk im hearing allot of bands are pushing up their tour dates in europe or even cancelling. how will this affect coachella?

Anonymous said...

The Coldplay dates seem to confirm them for Coachella as much as rule them out. They could easily sell out two nights at the HB in addition to playing Coachella. I guess it's just a big fucking coincidence that they happen to be on the West coast with weekend dates open for both Coachellas ...

Anonymous said...

the last few comments here are just...

Anything's Possible

Anonymous said...

Coldplay isn't playing. They aren't going from Canada on 4/20 all the way down to LA (meaning they bring their entire stage production with them) for 4/21 or 4/22 then bringing it back up to Oregon by 4/24 and then coming back to LA for 2 dates in early May.

Also headliners don't do LA dates that close to Coachella. The headliners have been locked in since last April, there's no reason they wouldn't have scheduled a tour to more conveniently work with this schedule (like Radiohead did).

Anonymous said...

However, their tour dates line up nicely with a Bonnaroo appearance.

Anonymous said...

They tickets aren't even going on sale until Jan 9. How do we know that the Coachella lineup won't already be announced by then.

Anonymous said...

guetia always sounds sooo butthurt on here

Anonymous said...

Coldplay still have open dates 5 out of the 6 days of Coachella and I don't think the radius clause is as big of deal with Coachella being two weekends now.
I think they will end up on the poster

Anonymous said...

^Yep. It's silly not to beliee so at this point.

Anonymous said...

It's a 3 hr flight from palm springs to Vancouver. Is is really impossible for Coldplay to make the trip? they are likely in, and the radius clause definitely does not apply this year with two weekends. Coachella is not gonna stop bands from performing in nearby regions because every band will HAVE to play closeby between weekends.

That being said I will probably be in the Sahara the night Coldplay headlines. Hopefully Saturday night because I pray that Radiohead is Sunday night closer.

Travis Bickle said...

why does nobody think that the ROLLING STONES will be there?! its insane to think that there is NOT one BIG get this year?! It went to two wknds for crying out loud!!! RADIOHEAD

wouldnt this be a wonderful Coachella of headliners

Anonymous said...

I think currently the greatest pair of headliners @ Coachella is Roger Waters and Prince.
Waters and Radiohead would one up that combo

Anonymous said...

^Nerd

Anonymous said...

the greatest headliners of all time would be radiohead , bowie , and daft punk , but everyone knows 1 of those will never happen

Anonymous said...

^ hope you're wrong

Anonymous said...

Guys, they aren't going to take away the radius clause because of the 2 weekends thing. How would that make any sense? We are going to pay you more money, we have more tickets to sell, and therefore we will make you more available to Los Angeles?

Certainly 2 dates at the Hollywood bowl less than 2 weeks after Coachella is not allowed for Coachella headliners. Use your brains.

Anonymous said...

^ 100% wrong. Coachella will sell out both weekends easily (if you think it won't you're crazy). Therefore it makes no difference to Coachella whether or not a band plays in L.A. around the festival. Are you trying to say every band playing coachella cannot play in los angeles before, inbetween, or after each weekend? clearly this not the case

FUCKING IDIOT said...

JAY-Z CANT HEADLINE COACHELLA 2010 BECAUSE HE'S PLAYING AT STAPLES CENTER!

Anonymous said...

^^^
Not what I said at all. Never said it wouldn't sell out, never said NO bands could play in LA (I've seen bands in LA the day before Coachella before).

What I said was Coachella has always had a radius clause for HEADLINERS. Coldplay would headline, therefore, they are in this boat. GV wouldn't all of a sudden take away the radius clause becasue of the 2 weekend thing, as some have alluded to. Why would they say, "we have 2 weekends therefore the radius clause is not necessary."? Does that make ANY sense whatsoever? They would all of a sudden not have a radius clause because it's 2 weekends? Why would they do that? What's the logic?

Anonymous said...

And I'm not even making the point Coldplay is impossible to be there. What I'm saying is they aren't going to take away the radius clause BECAUSE of the 2 weekends thing. If anything, it would make them use the radius clause even moreso.

I'm telling you if Radiohead plays Coachella and not LA tickets for Coachella will be a hotter item than if they play Staples Center 3 nights in a row from April 25-28.

Anonymous said...

As for radius clauses that prohibit acts contracted to play a festival from playing within certain geographic and time constraints, "It works itself out," Tollett said, adding that his and other festivals are generally flexible in how they treat these clauses. "There's flexibility, and there's a sense of making sure that the local clubs get shows and that April's good for them, too."

Anonymous said...

Better festival, better lineup, better experience, each and every year, the beauty of coachella. 2012 will be special

Anonymous said...

You guys are fucking idiots. Coldplay is headlining. Read Paul Tollet's interview from june. The radius clause is completely different this year due to the 2 weekened set up.Get with the times just because coldplay's playing the local area doesn't mean people are not going to the greatest festival ever. The lineup this year is going to destroy every year before it. They have to make this 2 weekend business model work for future years. Radiohead/Coldplay/any split headliners for 2012.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/goldenvoices-paul-tollett-explains-coachellas-193942

With a week's break, a lot of acts will be in the region, opening the door for potential sponsor events, fan club parties, or other opportunities. "We haven't jumped into that yet, but I would think that most of the bands would just tour other cities and come back," Tollett said.

As for radius clauses that prohibit acts contracted to play a festival from playing within certain geographic and time constraints, "It works itself out," Tollett said, adding that his and other festivals are generally flexible in how they treat these clauses. Foo Fighters/Bjork

No on the Rolling Stones too.

If they want to get a reunited
Kinks though - thats a YES.

Anonymous said...

the weeknd!

Anonymous said...

Re the whole radius clause argument. There will always be exceptions to any rule.
Say Led Zepp wanted to play LA Coliseum between headlining Coachella, I do not think GV would object too much.

Locking acts to exclusivity contracts usually means you pay more money.
I could see GV still booking Coldplay and letting them play Hollywood Bowl, if the money was right.

Anonymous said...

I'll second The Weeknd and throw some suggestions: Drake, The Knocks, Dillon Francis, Class Actress, and Washed Out.

Anonymous said...

Lots of people in LA still see Coldplay. I'd say only about 30 percent of those people would actually attend Coachella. Two shows in the area to accommodafolksy other 70 percent is necessary with their large, age/lifestyle spanning fan base. It really makes perfect sense.

Anonymous said...

310 Edit

...to accommadate the other 70 percent

Anonymous said...

I would think GV is going to try harder than booking the same act for 4 shows in a small radius in less than a month, the same act that has headlined at the last 2 big festivals.

Come on, coachella is better than that. I think we will get a headliner nobody is expecting.

Bruce is touring but has no dates before going to europe. Two warm up shows would work for me.

Ya, same morons who think Daft Punk will be there every year.

I actually hope they do play though. That way those Daft Punk fans will disappear for a while.

Worst fans ever?

@10:22

I think Arcade Fire already has the worst fans on the planet.

Anonymous said...

arcade fire fans are just lesser in number and insanity versions of radiohead fans. who gives a shit except for someone that irrationally hates the band on account of being a contrarian asshole?

Radiohead. Bjork.

If there is a God, Bjork will be no where near Indio in April.

No headliner can ever be as bad as Kings of Leon.

^^^

I'd rather watch Kings of Leon headline over

Killers, Bjork, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Jay Z, Gorillaz ( who have all headlined )

@1:51, all that beer pong fried your brain, brah.

Anonymous said...

Kings of Leon ar objectively awful compared to all those artists.

Anonymous said...

And this has become the problem with Coachella. The increasing diversity of fans and tastes makes it more nd more difficult to please everyone.

Anonymous said...

youre a stupid hipster fag for associating Kings of Leon with bros and bros with beer pong, get over yourself, beer pong is great!
